Minnesota Twins 2010 Season Part III, {sigh}

Re: Minnesota Twins 2010 Season Part III, {sigh}

So with a guy on 3rd and 2 outs, Denard... bunts it in the air for a final out.

Horrendous.
Watching too many Baby Jesus ABs.
I wouldn't equate it to the Mauer bunt, because in this case the potential winning run is on 3rd and a bunt could have gotten the run in. Obviously the execution was beyond awful, because even had it not been in the air it was either too hard or too close to the line, so he'd have been toast. He has not been swinging very well of late; maybe he wasn't confident he could swing and get a knock. I know I wasn't. I'd say the decision combined with the execution was very bad, but the possibility of the winning RBI moved it a couple of notches down the bad-baseball scale from where Mauer's bunt registered. My larger concern with Span of late is the number of balls he is messing up in CF. Trading Gomez somehow improved Young and worsened Span.

For most of the game, the "bad" Delmon was back. Classic butchery in the 9th. Luckily, good Delmon returned to get the clutch hit, after failing to drive in runs earlier in the series when all he needed was a sac fly. Given we are getting a steady dose of Cuddyer Lite, the Twins need all the good Delmon they can get. Valencia is giving them the most complete play at 3rd they've had in a long time. Now what version of Slowey will we see today?

For God's sake...Meatball Mahay serves up a pinch hit grand slam to freaking Jason Bartlett.

Re: Minnesota Twins 2010 Season Part III, {sigh}

Should've let Slowey get himself out of it....

And now Capps is coming in?!? W!T!F!

Wow, nice job by the relievers - HR, Bases loaded walk, Grand Salami.

Tied up at 6 now.

I find it rather curious that no one posted while the Twins were winning and no one posted after the re took the lead. Funny how that works... ;)

Twins win, Casilla with a very nice play to end it :)

I'm just reading a box score, but how the {bleeeeeep} did Delmon Young go first to third on an infield hit by Kubel?

Very high pop up hit off a speaker and landed in the infield. Kubel probably should have ended up on second.

The joke was way funnier if you didn't think about it too much. :p

Some of us have jobs where we can't post. :(

No they posted when things went to crap then disappeared as soon as it flipped back the Twins way Mr. Semantics ;)
I wasn't even awake when the game was played - sort of like Crain, Mahay, and the home plate umpire in the 8th inning.

Crain wasn't so bad. Yes, he walked the only batter he faced, but the batter fouled off a couple of two-strike pitches, and a couple of the balls could easily have been called strikes. He pitched in every game in the series, so I'll give him a pass.

The ump I wonder about in this series was Jerry Crawford. He missed Casilla's tag of Rodriguez at 2nd today after blowing the call when Valencia caught Jaso off of 3rd the night before. All umps are going to miss some balls/strikes, but at the major league level, they ought to get the safe/out on a tag at a base right almost all of the time.
