Minnesota Twins 2010 Season Part III, {sigh}

Re: Minnesota Twins 2010 Season Part III, {sigh}

This just in: the team that wins the Central Division is usually the team that plays the best.

Who is the moron doing color today?

Far be it for me to defend Rod Allen, but he actually said the team with the best intra-division record is the one that ends up winning the division.

Equally dumb comment. More games = better record. It's a lot more important to go 12-6 against the Tigers than 4-2 against the Orioles.

Re: Minnesota Twins 2010 Season Part III, {sigh}

So the Stribs big plan is to trade one of the only guys in the lineup that is hitting consistently? And they wonder why no one takes them seriously :rolleyes:

For a team that prides themselves on having the best prospects they sure don't seem to be able to use any of them to help the team. Billy Smith must be a master negotiator!

Re: Minnesota Twins 2010 Season Part III, {sigh}

They can't trade Cuddyer he can play a few different positions and despite his propensity to hit into DPs still does alright at the plate.

Now if you want to trade Jason Kubel that makes a little sense. He is not as good in the field as Cuddy and I would rather roll with Thome as DH than Kubel at this point.

They're winning today. Where's the positivity? :p

3 down is way better than 5.

I think Young, Cuddyer, Kubel, and Morneau could be good options to trade away, but only for a good pitcher.

Ramos(hitting .212 in Rochester) and Slowey(8-5 4.64 ERA) won't bring in a top level pitcher.

This issue should've been taken care of during the off-season.

Re: Minnesota Twins 2010 Season Part III, {sigh}

Trading away a guy that is entering the most productive years of his career and doesn't cost much is idiotic (seriously, how much will arbitration cost MN - it's not like he'll suddenly cost them $10 million a year).

It'd make more sense to trade Morneau - he's a good hitter, but he plays the position that is easiest to put a good hitter. He also costs MN $15 million per season. Lastly, by trading him, you pretty much guarantee you can get a top of the rotation starter in return without sacrificing any prospects. The only question is how many pitching-rich teams are there that need a 1B?

Unfortunately, Houston is set at 1B with Berkman, so any attempt to get Oswalt (assuming he'd be willing to come here) would require prospects. I doubt offering Kubel and Slowey would be anything close to what they'd demand.

For this post, I got this negative rep:

Sounds like one of your family members

That makes no sense. I was the broadcasting major. Not my brother.

If they traded Justin I think I would stop watching the rest of the season. If you trade away a guy who is putting up MVP type numbers and is pretty much the only guy in the middle of the lineup who is actually playing like they deserve to be in the middle of the lineup you might as well raise the white flag.

Sorry, but unless I am getting Sandy Koufax in his prime don't even joke about trading away Justin.

There are only 3 guys that they could trade and I'd be upset: Young, Span, & Morneau. Everyone else is expendable.

Well, it seems to me that Twins fans are wanting something for nothing. We should not trade our top prospects for a superace pitcher, we can't trade Morneau or Young because they are good, yet we want something that will help us (which would be a star player).

It takes talent to get talent. Pure and simple.

Since we lost the Lee sweepstakes, then I say we do nothing, or go balls deep and trade Morneau or Young. I'd prefer Mourneau, as he is the elder of the two, although not by much (4 years). However, as was previously mentioned, that position is easily replaced (maybe even by Mauer ;) ).

Time to man up, or shut up.

Re: Minnesota Twins 2010 Season Part III, {sigh}

Replace Morneau with Joe Smallball? Downgrade.

Talking instead of Mauer being a catcher he plays 1B, not 3B. Not a lot of mobility needed, Mauer is going to be moved in the future, according to all reports, etc etc.

Re: Minnesota Twins 2010 Season Part III, {sigh}

Move Cuddyer to first, call up Jacque Jones. Also call up Slama. Gibson's off limits, and I thought I heard Hicks was too. I looked at the numbers at AAA, Jones had good numbers as did Slama. Nobody else had anything great....

Good pitching has become scarce and the teams that have it, know it, and want a lot for it. Ramos and Slowey ain't gonna cut it...

Re: Minnesota Twins 2010 Season Part III, {sigh}

This is the bottom line: trading Young or Morneau might be good in the long run financially, but this season will be over. You can't have it both ways.
