Minnesota State University Maverick Hockey: 2012-2013 Season Thread

Re: Minnesota State University Maverick Hockey: 2012-2013 Season Thread

This is an entirely different looking team. Using their speed to carry the puck into the zone instead of dumping it in, precision passing, great defense, not spending half the night in the penalty box. What a difference a coaching change can make.

Keep it up guys. Very strange for me to be excited about a Mankato team. Hasn't happened since 2003.

My prediction - Williams will be taking games away from Cook sooner than later. Far more athletic & quicker, better rebound control but he was all over the place at times which I think is more a result of his inexperience.

In response to my post above, some unnamed person left me this rep:
Candidly, you have no clue about the UAH situation and really shouldn't comment like you do. Cook was called the most athletic player on the team. Your limited viewing does not qualify your comment.

Now I'll give the person the benefit of the doubt and assume he meant MSU and not UAH, but I've seen and known about these two goalies prior to that that weekend - but was first time I was able to see them both play vs the same competition. And in looking at the games since then all I can say is: I told you so.

While I consider Cook a solid goaltender, I believe many MSU fans, including myself, thought that Williams would see the majority of game time action by the end of the season. While things may change throughout the year, your original statement seemed valid.

It is AWESOME. Need to keep going though. The style of play we have is fantastic.

I hope this is an example of Mike Hasting's stamp on Maverick hockey. I'm looking forward to our next series against UAA.

I think we've seen that things are different here, which is good.

We do have to remember though, that its still very early, and the schedule is going to stiffen up quickly. Just have to take things one game at a time and enjoy it, I suppose!

While I agree with the above posts, keep in mind that our record against teams higher than us in the RPI and/or Pairwise is 1-5-0 (although I firmly believe we outplayed Denver in both games, and certainly played well against UMTC), and 6-0-2 against teams ranked lower than us.

The good part of this is that we have not lost against the teams that we should beat.

I think we should use the football team's philosophy. We are going for a record of 1-0.

Exactly. One game at a time, and lets see what happens week in and week out.

Thanks, I know most the Minn St folks who post here are willing to discuss opinions in the forum, that last post was only way to engage the person who left no name and did so via the reputation feature.

Fangers

There will always be pinheads on message boards who don't know know the difference between a hockey puck and icing. They are cowards who don't have the courage to discuss their opinions in public and hide behind walls. My guess this lowlife is not even a Maverick fan.

I agree, can't think of anyone in here who would do that.

I understand & agree. Figured I throw it out there in case the person was reading.

Teddy Blueger made the WJC preliminary roster for Latvia. He'll miss a few games with the Mavs, but happy for the kid!

Game Day! I hope the roads stay clear as it is current snowing in the Twin Cities.

If I'm not mistaken, this is the first Maverick (on the active roster) to play in this event. I believe that Blueger also played last year.

Wow. A five-game conference winning streak. Another strong performance by the Mavs tonight. This is fun!
