Minnesota State Off Season

This is one of my favorite teams, congrats to the players going to the next level. High profile coach will continue to recruit and develop. i.e. Fitzgerald and Tassey. Hastings will recruit and develop and not utilize the portal as a band aid. Players want to go to MSU and stay

Not sure what you mean by "band aid." But if there's a D-man in the portal that can help (even for just one year), I'm sure Hastings and staff will bring them in.

Your team will be fine. You have a great tradition of really good hockey. I don't think that will change.

I'm just sick. That "great tradition" is the 11 years Mike Hastings has been here. Remember, he turned the program around in his first year after Jutting got bounced. All we can do is wait and see, I guess.

Sorry for that one. 5 years and $3.75 mil sure screams "move here!"

Just like Luke Fickle, I don't get why a coach would leave a school when they have built a top national program to go to a rebuild. Granted B1G West in football is a MUCH easier path to B1G title/BCS than B1G hockey. It could be possible the NIL will change the national hockey landscape more than I realize.

I would hope Knott would stay and take the job. MnSU should have everything in place that a halfway competent coach could compete for CCHA championships on consistent basis.

I think the challenge of the rebuild holds some allure. And as someone about the same age as Coach, I can say that the thought of securing your family's financial future comes up more frequently.
He's a great man. We can't thank him enough for what he accomplished here, and we wish him the best.

I think this is the key. I can't blame Hasty for taking this opprotunity. The idea of passing up double (or more) your salary is not something that should be taken lightly. This is, however, something that is a bit scary for college hockey in my opinion. There are roughly 6-8 schools that can literally double the salary of the other 50+ schools and that divide is widening more and more all the time and is what a lot of us were afraid of with the conference shifts. Hasty is leaving a program that he built and made a yearly competitor on a national scale and no one holds it against him to leave for a school that has been down for 10ish years because they can afford so much more money.

Well eventually this was going to happen. Question now is... Does Knott stay? Do we lose players to the portal? Do any players decommit? On shaky ground right now, getting a coach set up ASAP is imperative. AD comment about Knott has me nervous about his interest

I understand that statement seemed a bit bumbled, I think the one that he gave KEYC was a bit better. I'm sure there is some negotiating going on, but who knows exactly. I was surprised Hasty left (although I wasn't expecting the kind of financial package he was given), so at this point I won't be surprised by anything.

There will always be a few schools who can pay more. My concern is when the gap gets so big that a school like Wisconsin can pay more to an Associate Head Coach than a school like Minnesota State can pay to a head coach.
