Minnesota State @ Minnesota

Re: Minnesota State @ Minnesota

i would like to see lucia go back to the original lines. the 2nd and 3rd lines werent scoring.. but that combination of players was working.. and they were wearing teams down. mankato is a team that the gophers should be able to wear down by using 4 solid lines.

Re: Minnesota State @ Minnesota

The Mavs will play it somewhat close Friday due to the Gophers Friday struggles and will get handled with ease Saturday.

5-3, 7-1.

I'd love to have some kind of faith that we stand even a little bit of chance in this series, but I just don't see it.

goldy, you gonna be at any of the games this weekend? might possibly make the trip for the Friday game.
Hey now, they had decent some decent opportunities throughout the weekend...they just fired most of them straight into the goalie's gut. Seriously, I understand the need to generate some excitement when you and your teammates can actually hear (sigh) cowbell guy chanting at you, but way to many of their shots had zero chance of making it. There were rebounds to be had, and they converted a couple of them, but I would generally expect a 30 shot differential to produce a W. The Mavs can score goals, but they need to make something happen.

I'll go ahead and call Friday nights game a competitive one, maybe even a win. They played Denver hard on the road in October, and I wouldn't be surprised to see them steal one this weekend. Split. They squeak by on Friday, Gophers replicate AA's conversion numbers from last night on Saturday.

Nope. In fact my tickets are up for sale for both games. This is the kid's team's travel tourney weekend - to exciting Rochester.

Re: Minnesota State @ Minnesota

Does Shibrowski get a shot? I personally don't think so, they'll probably wait for the classic to do it. But who knows.
I agree with you, but maybe if Patterson has a shaky Friday like we saw at Mich St we see Shibrowski on Saturday..?

I'm curious to see how the Gophers rebound after a seriously disappointing weekend @Mich St and not even being able to manage a split. This is a series that the Gophers should sweep. There should be no excuses and I will be severely disappointed if the Gophers take anything less than 3 points from this series.

Re: Minnesota State @ Minnesota

Yeah, we changed our name THIRTEEN YEARS ago. Pointing that out just never gets old, does it? So, so clever.

You're right. Gopher fans NEVER get reminded about things that happened years ago.

Tell you what, we'll let it go when you finally change your mascot to the Screaming Eagles.

Re: Minnesota State @ Minnesota

I agree, but I am trying to be prepared for that scenario too. I fully expect a sweep for the Gophers. That isn't arrogance or hating on MSU or anything like that. The Gophers are the better team and they should sweep. No excuses, just take care of business. That being said, considering the Gophers past few series, Kato stealing a win or tie wouldn't surprise me. I just hope they can get this Friday night funk out of their system and do what they are expected to do against a lesser opponent.

Well said Wes.

Re: Minnesota State @ Minnesota

I don't think jerry's statement is that farfetched. We are only a couple years removed from a home and home kato sweep and and a kato sweep on the road last year. I would like to think this years team is different, but it's hard to say and as I said, kato coming in and stealing a point or two wouldn't surprise me at all.

Re: Minnesota State @ Minnesota

Yeah, because this is the University of Minnesota at Mankato State Technological A&M College For the Blind's (© Hoven) NC series, of course they get up for these games. Minnesota should still sweep.

I'd at least like to see Boyd back on the 4th line. Not just because he was culpable on 2 of MSU's goals Saturday, but mostly because that 4th line has been a big contributor this season, and seemed to be less of a factor without Boyd.

Warning and Ambroz I could take or leave at this point. I'd like to see Sacchetti more seriously placed in that trio for the last 2 roster spots.

I agree with you, but maybe if Patterson has a shaky Friday like we saw at Mich St we see Shibrowski on Saturday..?

Why? I don't see any reason to. And, given that MN hasn't racked up many OOC wins, I'm also skeptical that we will see him in the holiday tournament.
MN has plenty of rest through the first part of January. Giving Patterson 1 night off now doesn't make much sense.

It was a question, not really a suggestion. It was in response to a post state of hockey made. I agree with you.

I also agree with you on Ambroz and Warning. I hope that sitting them on Saturday was a wake up call and if they play this weekend that they are much more motivated and make an impact. Even if it isn't on the scoresheet, especially in Ambroz's case using his size in the corners and out in front of the net.

Re: Minnesota State @ Minnesota

How about like the 25 games before that?
That is irrelevant. Recent history has shown that the purple cows have played the Gophers pretty tough and as recently as last year, thoroughly outplayed the Gophers. Take nothing for granted in the WCHA, friend.

Re: Minnesota State @ Minnesota

The past couple of years have been good for MSU against the Gophs but this years team is struggling to win, good efforts have been seen from game to game but the results haven't been favorable. I don't see MSU taking any points in the series but I think they may jump out of the gate strong. If they get down by a couple early it will be a long game as they seem to slow down. Against UAA they came out with fire after getting down by 4 but couldn't do it. As always, hopeful but realistic. Watching on well produced TV won't make it any easier if it's a blowout.

You forget that St Cloud fans feel the need to point out the failings of MSU so they can feel superior to us. Just another day on the interwebs.
