Minnesota State at Michigan Tech 10/15-10/16

Although the Husky fans likely won't worry about this serious until after their Tuesday night affair with NMU, as of now, both teams are undefeated, with MTU at 2-0, a fairly impressive start for a team many people are always down on, and the Mavericks at 0-0-2. Two ties that should've been wins had the Mavs been able to hold off goals late in the third period. Should be a good series, although it seems like the Mavs never play all that well in Houghton.

We settled for two ties against an ECAC team. I'm not impressed.

Re: Minnesota State at Michigan Tech 10/15-10/16

I suppose we can bump this back to the top now.

Mankato's usually a pretty tough hockey team. I'm expecting a pair of close ones this weekend.

If we start 2-0 in WCHA play I will say nice things about Foxton.

Ah, there is a thread. Hopefully tech can keep up the special teams play going forward, 50% pp and 80% pk!

I don't know, that's like way too easy for me. If we sweep umtc, then I will say nice things about foxton. I think the jury is still out on Tech's quality. Too many minutes with the other team in our zone having their way with our goalie.

Watching the game, you couldn't help but realize that if NMU connected on a few crossing passes and rebounds, they could have easily put up 8 goals last night. Another thing to realize is that the same thing can be said for Tech's offense. One can't expect a team to score on every opportunity, but there has to be some way to cut down on chances (either resulting in a shot or not), and be able to get the puck out of the zone when necessary. I can remember at least 2 of NMU's goals coming off of prolonged play in the Tech end, where you just felt that something was going to happen due to Tech not being able to clear the puck.

Tech came out extremely flat in the second period last night, and it resulted in 3 NMU goals on 8 shots. It was like a different team took the ice each of the 3 periods last night. Given that, I am scared to think what kind of a team would have came back out if they had to go to the locker room between the 3rd and OT. Thankfully it is only a 2 minute break :P

If Tech is going to make any noise this season and not be in the basement, they need to take points at home. They need to take points from the teams picked directly above them. Adding that together, it means that the Huskies need to take 3 points this weekend to be on their way. A split would be disapointing, but acceptable. Anything less, and here we go again.

Re: Minnesota State at Michigan Tech 10/15-10/16

This team still has plenty of areas in which they need to improve. We really need 3+ points, but this early on I could settle for the splitski. The guys then have a weekend off before the Maddy roadtrip, which will give them more time to review tape and work on what seems to be ailing them the most at this point - faceoffs and sloppy d-zone play.

I assume the rotation will continue in reverse now, with Genoe on Friday and Robinson on Saturday. Unless both prove to be lights out over the course of the next 3-4 weeks, I would think we'll have a clear starter by early/mid-November, and if that is the case, I'd like Russell to anoint said starter earlier than he usually does.

Mankato always seems to be the team we should beat ... but don't. still, I'm very hopeful ... this isn't our old Huskies!

Re: Minnesota State at Michigan Tech 10/15-10/16

And I really doubt that we start 2-0 in WCHA play.
I agree with you there. But if there is a team to do it against, its Mankato. They suck just as much as Tech does. No matter what happens this weekend, it will all come falling back to earth after Tech gets blown out by a young and mediocre Badger team at the Kohl Center.

Well our power play is horrific, as is our penalty kill, so that could be quite likely this weekend.

I'm cautiously optimistic this team we have is pretty decent. They're young, scrappy, and will only grow and get better every weekend. I could see a sweep either way, hopefully for the purple, but I'm thinking split.

Probably a dumb question and something I should have researched, but I have a question for Tech fans. What's the deal with Jordan Baker? I see he hasn't played any games this year....? He is on my fantasy team;). I didn't realize he wasn't playing:confused:

He's hurt, should be back in the lineup after the mankato series.
