Minnesota State Applies to the NCHC

Re: Minnesota State Applies to the NCHC

So how do we go about trading the WCHA name and Bemidji State to the NaCHo while getting WMU and MU in return?

GFM

I feel like a WMU/Miami return to the Midwest would be inching closer and closer at this point, especially if ASU is to follow into the NCHC, even moreso if the Alaskas have to combine.

Re: Minnesota State Applies to the NCHC

Really a shame. Alaska as a state is rich and can easily afford this for its residents.

so true...trouble is no one saved any monies knowing the oil will not last forever....certainly not $100 a barrel. Now another $$ special session called by the governor and the legislature won't do a **** thing...so everyone who lives here suffers>>>

Was. Oil is $45/bbl. That kills state revenue.

I suppose. Couple that with tax breaks the state was giving and the fact that Alaska is CNBC's 49th best state for business. There's serious issues.

If they want to leave...they have to pay up.

The NCHC has a massive buyout for anyone that jumps ship. According to multiple sources, the buyout equates to a year of the league’s operating expenses. Right now, that’s roughly $1.5 million. It also requires a 24-month notice. If it’s less, the buyout goes up.

I miss the old Final Five and everyone there hating on the rodents, but good riddance. It's fun watching Minnesota be irrelevant for a change.

If by irrelevant you mean winning five straight conference titles and going to the NC game a couple years back...then yes, irrelevant.

The more irrelevant Minnesota is the less likely people care as much about college hockey in the state of Minnesota.

Re: Minnesota State Applies to the NCHC

There's no way it doesn't happen at this point. MSU would never do this unless the ink was dry.
I agree. I would also tend to believe that they'll join the NCHC starting in 2017-18 or they'll be playing as an independent that season. I doubt the WCHA is going to tangle with the 2016-17 schedule as this point since the schedule is already out, but they won't be around for a second season. Don't let the door hit you in the ***** on the way out Mavs.

Lots of early excitement from boosters I've talked to. They want to see SCSU, UMD, UND, UNO, etc again.

Fans on Twitter are all for it. MSU put itself in a tough spot if nothing happens.

Sources at MSU are currently quiet, but I do know one source didn't rule out a move imminent in the next couple years, FWIW.
Style of play is a huge part of it as well. The style Hastings wants to play is a fast transition game which fits the NCHC much better than the "clutch and grab" WCHA.

I wonder if things will get extra interesting and Bowling Green also applies to the NCHC? I'm assuming Miami and WMU would lobby hard for them while the rest of the conference members would want Mankato.

Re: Minnesota State Applies to the NCHC

Not sure on official announcement but all indications from my athletic department contacts are that it will be the 2018-2019 season that the Mavs join the NCHC along with ASU. If possible they'll get it done sooner, adding ASU hasn't gone as smoothly as it was supposed to.

Not earth shattering, but sounds like it's gonna happen.

It could also mean the best players leave for the CHL. Which is fine by me, I would rather win a Stanley Cup.

So you actually think that if the Gophers aren't good, more kids from MN will choose the CHL? Wow...i mean i knew you were arrogant but that's some SEVERE overrating of the Gopher program's power in the state.

Re: Minnesota State Applies to the NCHC

Also forgot to mention, gotta feel bad for Bemidji. Looks like they are potentially getting left behind by the in state schools. Going to be a crap situation for them.

Definitely. Great point bringing that discussion here. Hastings best team at MSU, 2014-2015, was unbelievable in transition.

The only thing more unlikely than BG applying for the NCHC is BG getting an invite to the B1G personally delivered by Don Lucia.
