Minnesota State 2024-25 Season: Together We Strand

If a portal player remains unclaimed, what options does he have? Also, for a team that adds portal transfers, does that reduce the number of incoming freshmen recruits they can bring in? Help me out here, I'm not sure how all this works...
Option to return to your team is there (if they'll take you back), drop down to Divison III or call it a career. Freshman coming in and recruiting is pretty fluid in terms of which year they come in and, as we've seen this offseason, if they show up at all. The new roster limit and it constantly being challenged in court has added another layer of chaos to everything.

Another addition, Tristan Lemyre from Western Michgian. Has won the last two national titles with the Broncos and Denver. 14 points last season, looks like a really good pickup.

Also added goaltender Max Beckford from Bentley to presumably back up Tracy. 2-1-0 in 4 games last year, had a couple good seasons in the NAHL before that.

I don't know anything about these incoming guys but quite a few are from schools with good credentials (e.g., WMU, Duluth, Wisco & Omaha). Is it too optimistic to think Mavs will be contenders again next season?

Tracy and a good portion of the D-corps coming back probably makes them conference title contenders by themselves.

Should also get more contributions than the previous two seasons from freshmen, even with the two deserters. Reid Morich and Jordan Ronn both had good years in the USHL.

Going to need a more balanced scoring attack because there's no direct replacement for Pitlick.

Schedule out. Interesting getting the first weekend off and then no breaks til Christmas. Conference schedule wonky with nine teams.. three games vs Auggie and St Thomas.

Bemidji, Tech, and Lake Superior get 14 home games 12 road games. Minnesota State, St Thomas, and Augustana play 13 of each while BG, Northern and Ferris are stuck with 12 home and 14 road games. With one year with 9 teams, there will be no way to make it balanced for BG, Ferris, and Northern. I am sure that a better job could have been done during this odd season to make it fair and balanced for all of the teams in the league.

Last year, Bemidji was flip-flopped with 12 home and 14 road, I believe. So this would even the two year cycle out, I would guess it does for the other teams as well with the 14/12 split.

Not sure how that can be done with an odd number of teams other than having some teams play fewer out of conference. Unfortunately, we need to win more out of conference games if we want to separate ourselves from Atlantic Hockey.

Last year was the flip flop responding to the previous season. It was the response to the first year with Augustana playing one series in the league with each team. This year is different. It will be the only season with nine teams. I am sure that they could have come up with something more balanced to all if they cared to.
