Minnesota State 2018-19 Season Thread

Re: Minnesota State 2018-19 Season Thread

Hastings was off coaching the World Juniors team over the break. Probably had something to do with the results. And hey, you ARE the #3 overall seed. The two teams ahead of you are pretty good. Go get that first win out east. It's not like Providence will bring a massive hostile crowd like going into play the Sioux in one of their alternate arenas. You got this. Don't worry about the second one until the first is in the bank. Then hopefully we'll all be there to duke it out in Buffalo. Minnesota invasion of New York.

I'm second to no one in my support for Coach Hastings, but I think an even bigger factor in Arizona was having Tuomie and Jaremko out. This was especially noticeable in the ASU game, where we struggled to produce much offensively (In the UMD game, it probably played a big role in our pathetic 5 minute, 3rd period power play, but UMD was missing Samberg, Cates, and Anderson, so it all evened out.). We're healthy and ready to go now, so no excuses. Now we just have to do it.

I have seen a few places now where people point out our SOS and playing against tournament teams and I get what they are saying but as is been posted BU, UND and UofM are not easy wins no matter what kind of year they are having. We can only play out schedule. Most years that nonconference line up would have been amazing.

The Mavs played only 5 games vs tourney teams, and we’re 1-3-1. All three losses without Mike Hastings, and the UMD loss was in OT. MN, UND, BU, LSSU, all in the top 25 of the Pairwise.

I don’t care what others say about SOS, the Mavs are a very good hockey team. To get more national respect though, win this weekend.

Well, the obligatory 4 over a 1 has already happened, and it’s officially GAME DAY! Let’s Go Mavericks!!!

Re: Minnesota State 2018-19 Season Thread

Rooting for you guys so hard. Just gotta play angry and united. Don’t be like SCSU

What a joke. We didn't look like a 1 seed should especially on penalty kill. All the criticism of us is warranted. I'd love the say that the team I saw today is not the team I watched all year and it's true but what does it matter. We are now 0-6.

Maybe that's the banner we should hang up 0-6 in ncaas

I really didn’t like that call late on Mackey, but it doesn’t matter when you give up 4 PPG. That just cannot happen. Special teams are the difference in big games and the Mavs collapses again. Incredible. I just don’t have words.

Hastings winner take all record isn't great. We play great for 1 period then just fall apart. I'd love the say that the team I saw today is not the team I watched all year and it's true but what does it matter. We are now 0-6.
Yeah, the down low coverage on the PK was really poor.

Speaking as a Michigan fan who lives in Duluth, I think you guys should get a chance to play a tournament game at home. Or at least close to home. Frankly, this tournament format stinks.

Does venue matter that much? I saw Saint Cloud, Denver, Maine, and Colorado College (three of which were higher seeds) in person as they melted in Yost in 02 and 03. You bet it mattered.

Better luck next year.

It was a stupid penalty from Mackey. He definitely raised his elbow and hit the Providence guy in the head. They can't call a minor penalty on a review if they didn't call one initially so a major was the likely result of the review. The Mavs played a very good first period (except for the bad coverage on the Providence PP goal) but didn't look like the same team in the second and third periods.

I don't like the call but it was legit. He lifted his elbow. I saw the replay and thought immediately it was 5. Providence player sold it a bit too.

oh, I'm so sorry for you Mavs! I was hoping you might win the whole thing. The Brady family ... chokes.

WCHA and NCHC teams need to step up and start bidding to keep the regional in the midwest. Penn State will bid to have the midwest regional in Allentown every year, so our schools need to find a way to get it back to Grand Rapids, Green Bay, St. Paul etc...

And you have to be able to kill penalties with a resonable amount of success if you want to win. I would not have called it, but it was a penalty. Same as the Clarkson one, questionable if you ask me and it really affected the result.
Also, can someone post a link to the after game presser?

Thing is as much as the penalty hurt I still think our disappearence the last 2 ncaas in the 2nd and 3rd periods is a bigger issue. We had a 3 goal lead. And blew it. Even if they dont call the major I saw nothing from them indicating that we might win. What do we want to say is the issue? Because at 0-5 this doesn't say much for Hastings and getting this team ready. I say that as a huge Hastings supporter

Green Bay is out as a potential host, due to scheduling conflicts. But Milwaukee’s UWMilwaukee Panther Arena, where the AHL Admirals play, seats 9,000 and would be a terrific option.
