Minnesota State 2018-19 Season Thread

Re: Minnesota State 2018-19 Season Thread

Bulletin board material,

Ritchlin predicted St Cloud, UMD, Northeastern and Notre Dame to the frozen four.
Come on Mankato, this is the year for a frozen 4 WCHA team.

Re: Minnesota State 2018-19 Season Thread

Hayden Hawkey scares me. I think the Mavs can skate with anyone and have so much depth in scoring, but Hawkey is very good and could definitely steal a game from the Mavs. Psychologically the Mavs need this win. They need to get over the hump and push this program forward.

Re: Minnesota State 2018-19 Season Thread

As long as they’re alive and they’re the home team on the scoreboard, the captains have elected to wear the yellow jerseys moving forward — same logic as last weekend. (They haven’t lost in the yellow jerseys.)

Re: Minnesota State 2018-19 Season Thread

Providence hasn't played a "ROAD" regional in the last six years BTW...everything has been within 1.5 hours of campus. Think about that.

Considering the location of Providence, Rhode Island - 1 hour from Boston, 2 1/2 hours from NYC, etc - no, I really don't find that hard to believe considering where all eastern regionals have been played the last 20 years or so.....

My 10 cents is that we need SCSU UMD and MSU to do joint bids. Alternate with UofM or something. We need better placed regionals.id drive and did drive to Notre Dame to watch regionals. Want to boost attendance start there.

The Mavs do need this. Playing them in essentially a road games sucks and it's not fair but go out there and prove all the haters wrong. This team can beat anyone. Now we need them to prove it.

Richie Rich over here with his 10 cents instead of 2 like the rest of us have. But yes current format sucks.

i don't have and problem at all with the format. The committee could have flipped regions. My problem is giving a team essentially a home game without having made a financial commitment to host. If they are the host I'm OK with the host team playing at near home.

I've gotten over it. JUST WIN MAVERICKS.

I'm glad. While I completely understand why the "throwbacks" were worn this year, I think they're generic and boring. I love the new ones, both home and road.

Have to say I’m nervous, and have been since Sunday morning.

Ditto. It's not losing this one game that has me nervous it's losing again... Had we won a game or two in the NCAA I don't think I would be nervous at all. We as a program can't really ask for legitmacy when each time we have a chance to escalate our program we blow it. Plus it also doesn't help our candidacy either to the NCHC if they go that route.

And just about any team from out east is closer to Providence than MSU is to Duluth, so you’re going to face that “home team” crowd. Bowling Green is the only 4 seed whom you wouldn’t have that with.

You guys drew the worst #1 seeding for a regional in my opinion. There's really nothing that could be done about it once Duluth passed you in the pairwise by virtue of their double OT win over St Cloud, though. That, and you can't play BG in the first round, and Umass can't play Providence. I don't think the Friars should be rewarded with what is essentially a home game as a #4 seed, but avoiding intra-conference matchups is the first priority. Looking at the body of work you've put together this season, you only beat one NCAA tournament team the entire year and that was the WCHA Championship game in OT at home. You lost to Duluth in OT and tied ASU, and got swept by BG at home in December. Not a great omen for what may lie ahead. The first one is the hardest to get. St Cloud will confirm that. They went 0-8 before they finally got a win and then they got a bunch of wins and made a Frozen Four. I feel like once that first one comes, more will follow.

Yep, unfortunately what should have been a monster out of conference schedule turned into a dud. You would think when scheduling UND, MN and BU and go 5-1, we would have gotten a couple quality wins out of it. It's the curse of being in a lower level conference. It's unfortunate because I've talked to a few people that were at the AZ tourney that said the team didn't look like themselves that weekend and were not good....and still took both games to OT. This is a really good team, but now is the time to prove it. Until we win a couple of these games, we're going to be asking for legitimacy rather than just having it given to us.

Hastings was off coaching the World Juniors team over the break. Probably had something to do with the results. And hey, you ARE the #3 overall seed. The two teams ahead of you are pretty good. Go get that first win out east. It's not like Providence will bring a massive hostile crowd like going into play the Sioux in one of their alternate arenas. You got this. Don't worry about the second one until the first is in the bank. Then hopefully we'll all be there to duke it out in Buffalo. Minnesota invasion of New York.

I like them both — I think the whites are the better looking jersey, and all I want is for the University to embrace Mankato again.
