Minnesota @ Penn State: 2/20 & 2/21

Re: Minnesota @ Penn State: 2/20 & 2/21

Gameday!

News/notes from Gophersports

Coming off a two-game sweep of Michigan that propelled Minnesota into a tie for first place in the Big Ten and also moved the Gophers back into the national rankings, No. 15/17 Gopher Hockey returns to action this weekend with a two-game conference series at Penn State.

The two Big Ten foes meet for the first time this season on Friday, Feb. 20 at 6:40 p.m. ET (BTN, BTN2Go.com, 1500 ESPN, Gopher Radio Network) while the series finale at Pegula Ice Arena is set for Saturday, Feb. 21 at 5:07 p.m. ET (ESPNU, WatchESPN, 1500 ESPN, Gopher Radio Network).

Seniors Set the Tone
Since Minnesota started its current six-game unbeaten streak on Jan. 30, no class in college hockey has tallied more points that the Gophers’ senior class. The six Minnesota seniors have combined to score 16 of the team’s 29 points over the stretch including back-to-back hat tricks from Travis Boyd and Kyle Rau. All six seniors have tallied points during the run including the team’s top three scorers over the unbeaten streak in Boyd (4-6--10), Seth Ambroz (6-3--9) and Rau (5-3--8).

I'm still optimistic. In addition to an inflated record at home (due to a 47th SOS out of 59 teams and less than that at home), PSU's shots and shots allowed indicates that it plays a wide open style of play. MN's 5 player puck domination style works well against a wide open style of play. If they're not too physical, we could well have a good weekend. Go gophers!

Nice win for the Gophers/ I really liked their 3rd period. They weren't sitting back, but they were taking the smart play, not forcing anything and do the simple things to take time off the clock. A few mistakes, but Wilcox stood tall.

Scores around the country are looking pretty good at the moment as well. Hopefully they stand up...

Re: Minnesota @ Penn State: 2/20 & 2/21

solid road win tonight

D looked like the shutdown D they were last year. Keep that up and good things will happen.

Re: Minnesota @ Penn State: 2/20 & 2/21

Yeah, but it's always nice to have a little something in your back pocket in case of emergency.

Re: Minnesota @ Penn State: 2/20 & 2/21

meh, hell lets just win the whole **** thing, rest of our games. :)

Re: Minnesota @ Penn State: 2/20 & 2/21

I'm just enjoying each and every win. They fought through a very physical Penn State team in the first period, and gradually took control.

A sweep on the road is now within reach.

Re: Minnesota @ Penn State: 2/20 & 2/21

Also when did Penn State lose that ugly stripe on their helmets? Good move IMO, but their uniforms still need some work.

Re: Minnesota @ Penn State: 2/20 & 2/21

Such exciting hockey! Minnesota tJugggernaut v Penn State tUnderdog! What could go wrong in the atlBan1tGic hockey conference?!

i just don't care for inconsistent officiating this group should be working Section 6 region.

Horrible

Re: Minnesota @ Penn State: 2/20 & 2/21

Gophs came out a little slow. and well Penn State blocked a lot of shots and passes, I thought several of the blocked passes was as much on the Gophs making some poor decisions in the first half the game. And hit the net, for F's sake! How many shots from the slot went wide? Loss puts them in a tough position. And they seemed to have slowed in OT, like they figured they succeeded once they tied it up. frustrating after the comeback.

Re: Minnesota @ Penn State: 2/20 & 2/21

I still, think they're in the drivers seat for an autobid if they avoid more than one loss between now and the conference finals, but I admittedly do not analyze the PWR at all.
