Minnesota @ Ohio State: 3/7 & 3/8

Re: Minnesota @ Ohio State: 3/7 & 3/8

I like watching the quick tempo game OS play. Trouble for them is it plays into the Goph's strength. They will be out maned but will still play their game. Its up to their gumper to steal one.

Re: Minnesota @ Ohio State: 3/7 & 3/8

Well if we sweep the Gophers this weekend how much respect will that gain us or will you guys be in denial that it was skill?

Re: Minnesota @ Ohio State: 3/7 & 3/8

I think this weekend has split written all over it, OSU has a solid PP and we are bound to drop one on the road.

We'll see what Gopher team shows up both nights.

Re: Minnesota @ Ohio State: 3/7 & 3/8

Well the Ugly Helmets won both games they played in your rink - even if they weren't the same weekend due to all your home and home series.
They only played one game in our rink.
Last Sunday they did play in Columbus but it was in Nationwide Arena, the Blue Jackets home ice, not ours.
Greedy OSU rents out our arena for the high school state wrestling tournament and although they were done Saturday it takes 3 days to put the ice back down as they remove it completely for the space they need for the wresting mats. This has been a sore spot here for years that they do this to our hockey team.

Re: Minnesota @ Ohio State: 3/7 & 3/8

Back to how we've done this season we are a team that is completely different to how we were doing at the start of the season back in October so I don't even take those non-conference games into consideration when it come to how we are now.
In conference play here's the facts.
When we dropped the first two to Michigan due to unforeseen issues as we were forced to use our 3rd goalie who is normally only used in practice and the first was an OT loss by a single goal of course and the second was again by a single goal in the last minute.
The next series against Sparty we won and tied the next game giving up the 3rd point in the SO.
In the Classic against you our goalie pushed the puck in for the game's only goal so I don't see real bragging rights by you there. The next game was a legit win for you.
Then we split with the Badgers in their barn. How did you do there?
Then sweep Penn State here.
Tied both games in East Lansing taking the shootout both games.
Split with the Badgers in our barn.
Tied in Ann Arbor last weekend taking the SO win, then lost to them at Nationwide.
I see a team here that can beat any team in the conference. Just some bad breaks keep us from having a better conference record but we haven't been shabby either.

Yeah, well some Gopher fans tried this explanation when things went poorly for our boys at the X. Yeah not your home, but in your town. It isn't exactly playing at home, but you certainly aren't on the road either.

Agreed, but it still isn't the same as being in your own barn and the familiarity of the ice you practice and play on.
The only advantage to playing in town is you don't have to travel and you have your fans but I still think your own ice is a much better advantage for any team.

Well until your team beats the Gophers, I think I'll wait to believe that you've got a team that can beat anyone in the B1G. We're not Michigan and we're not Wisconsin. And you're certainly no BC.

Well we DID beat a team twice who swept YOU! ;)
I think that's all the proof needed until the weekend.

That's nothing.

Lesser teams get thumped by girls bouncy ball.

Re: Minnesota @ Ohio State: 3/7 & 3/8

Honestly, with all the jabs aside this series I think is up in the air. For whatever reason we have been a stronger team the first game all season long and not so much the next night. If there is a split the Friday game is our best shot at the win.

Re: Minnesota @ Ohio State: 3/7 & 3/8

bump.

Honest question. How many wins does OSU have versus MN all-time? im guessing only a handful since we dont play too much.

I 'm not sure of the answer but obviously the advantage has probably been to you guys but I don't see that as relevant to this weekend.
Our program has been disregarded for years by the Athletic Dept. With the hiring of Oz did things actually start to change and now that Rohlik is coach I see us performing better than we ever have and it looks to only improve. So the only thing here that counts is what can THIS team do against the Gophers?

I wasn't relating anything to this weekend. I just wanted to know the record. Although saying an avg. OSU team is going to triple their all-time win total this weekend does seem like a stretch.

In no way do i think Ohio state sweeps this series but i do think they get points from this weekend. This team has improved since they met in Minneapolis 2 months ago. I thought they played pretty decent on the big sheet saturday night up there even taking the 2-0 lead.
