:) Minnesota @ Michigan: 3/14 3/15...Only Need Two

Re: :) Minnesota @ Michigan: 3/14 3/15...Only Need Two

So glad the Gophers treated this game like a throw away game right before the post season :(

Gotta say, I question the lineup changes.

Oh well, last time this team lost 6-2 they followed that up by rattling off 14 straight undefeated.

Re: :) Minnesota @ Michigan: 3/14 3/15...Only Need Two

No worries.….. Wilcox would have stopped 4 of those six goals. We would have won it 3-2 in OT again.

Oh, and ......

Mike Legg SUCKS!!!!!!

Well, its not like we give him a lot of chances to practice in real game situations. Wilcox has started what? 95% of the games the last 2 seasons?!

And he should have started tonight.

The team talked earlier this week about how they are in a tourney mentality. Don't tell me that and then start a not-ready-for-D1 backup goalie.

Well, despite what I wrote earlier about how I wanted Wilcox to start and wanted to beat Michigan tonight, I'm also FAR MORE concerned about winning a Natl Title and if resting beat up players and giving our #1 goalie a night off just to make sure he's healthy and rested and ready to go for the playoffs is what Lucia feels is the best thing, well, I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt for now.

My only problem with all that is momentum is so big in hockey. It's hard to turn it off and then back on. If Wilcox needed rest, I think they should have done it sooner IMO.

I don't have as much a problem with the loss as i do the circumstances surrounding it. I think the coaches sent a message (intentional or not) that this game didn't matter with the lineup changes and the players subsequently treated it as such.

Now, credit Michigan because they absolutely played to their potential tonight. Not saying the Gophers were guaranteed to win tonight, but if a focused Gopher squad took the ice tonight, I doubt it would have played out like this.

Just hope this serves as a message. Can't afford to "not have it tonight" again from here on out.

I don't have any real problem with the line-up tonight. Calling Shibrowski "not ready for D1" is ridiculous. The kid had played very well in his limited time earlier this season. Sitting a beat up Warning seems prudent. Moving Lettieri onto the 2nd line was unexpected, but if a message was trying to be sent than tonight was a good time to do it.

I also think that if MN ends up facing MI again this year, they are much more likely to be ready to go from the first puck drop after a night like tonight. I know some people like to hold to the idea that there is nothing that can be learned in a loss that can't also be learned in a victory, and in theory that may hold true. But in practice...sometimes everyone can benefit from a good ***-kicking now and then. I'm not saying that is what was being set up by the line-up changes tonight, I just don't think it's something that was much of a concern.

Well played game by Michigan. They were playing play-off hockey, and I have a feeling they are going to be a tough out for whoever they match up against in the Big10 tourney.

Skjei said in his post game interview tonight that the coaches emphasize playing "every game like it's our last". I just didn't get that feeling tonight, and that started the minute I saw the lineup changes.

Have no problem resting Warning if he's banged up. Have no problem playing Shibrowski, but if Wilcox needed the rest, he should have been given it earlier IMO. Didn't like the rest of the changes. I'm a firm believer in momentum.

Skjei also said in his post gamer that they "didn't have it tonight". What I would like to see (and hope to see) is them "have it" every night this time of year. Won't be long until not "having it" on a given night will end their season.

Look at how Frost handles the ladies. They had their conference wrapped up long ago, yet didn't feel the need to throw away a late game.

Just bad timing and a bad message from the coaches IMO.

I wouldn't read too much into that quote. What is he going to say? I also don't know when would have been a better time to rest Wilcox. Tonight was the first game of the year that didn't really have any future implication. And I don't even necessarily agree that Shibrowski started because Lucia wanted Wilcox to rest.

As for the Frost comparison, there's more than one way to skin a cat. I guess we'll see what happens going forward, but I really am not concerned about the mentality of the team.

What would have been better? MI comes out in desperation mode and takes it to a flat, not-much-to-play-for Gopher team with the exact same line-up that they will play from here on out? Or a desperate MI teams comes out and takes it to a MN team with a juggled line-up?

Re: :) Minnesota @ Michigan: 3/14 3/15...Only Need Two

Congratulations to Michigan. They did what they needed to do to save their season. Well played. To some of my fellow Gopher fans. If you want to whine and jump off the wagon, go ahead. You'll make more room and the ride more pleasant for those of us who really love this team.

Not by any means am I suggesting that I am overly concerned either. I like this team, and I do think they will bounce back and play well next weekend.

I just don't agree that the game was meaningless or that jumbling the lines this late was the right decision.

Had the Gophers won tonight it would have all but wrapped up the #1 overall seed, regardless of what happens next weekend.

I just didn't like the whole mentality heading into this game. Hopefully it becomes a moot point.

I don't think anyone is jumping off the bandwagon. People can have a discussion about how this game was handled without implying our season is in dire straights.

Re: :) Minnesota @ Michigan: 3/14 3/15...Only Need Two

No message was sent aside from telling Csmmy to play harder and there's nothing wrong with that. That's all. They won't play another game of that nature for the rest of the season and I think once again some fans are overreacting. There's zero reason to believe an overall tone was set that will carry over to next weekend

No overreaction, no mention the season is over, that this team is doomed, or mention that this is guaranteed to carry over to next weekend. I just don't agree with the decisions.
