Minnesota hosts Wisconsin: 1/16 & 1/17

Re: Minnesota hosts Wisconsin: 1/16 & 1/17

I'd rest your sieves all weekend and just go without. Your first D back will be enough in front of the net. Oh.....wait......the rodent D don't actually play D too often, that may not work.

True, but we don't have to play much D against what you guys call an offense.

In fact, Wilcox will be going old school this weekend in net.

Can't blame either fan base for feeling a little down right now...

A "little down" would be a huge step up for most of us Badger fans right now.

Can't say I'm all that bent anymore though. Acceptance has set in.

It's gonna be a couple years (at minimum).

This is all exactly what we have hoped for... but then when it finally happens, it just seems so sad. A good old fashion badger beat down could really lift my spirits and maybe not feel so sad about it... for a little while at least.

I have to admit, I'd be a lot more nervous about this series if the Gophers were living up to expectations.

As in, there'd be more to lose?

That's why this series doesn't register at all for me. I feel a little bad, but I just don't care right now.

I'll dvr the games (won't be home) and maybe watch if we win.

Meh

Re: Minnesota hosts Wisconsin: 1/16 & 1/17

I'm DVR-ing both matchups and then watching them with a stiff drink or two to dull the pain.

I was going to say that I'd watch with a box of tissues (for when I start crying), but given how some people respond to PRIDE ON ICE, I figured that might get misconstrued as something else entirely.

Re: Minnesota hosts Wisconsin: 1/16 & 1/17

Precisely. While it would REALLY hurt the Gophers to lose this weekend, I won't be surprised.
Nor I. Just as we saw the Wolverines continue their rebound last weekend, we could see the Badgers affirm their nascent rebound this weekend. Gophers clearly have a talent advantage but will need to find ways to use it to their advantage, while the Badgers will be looking to effectively neutralize the Gophers' speed game by using the body and their usual trap scheme. I think it'll be important for the Gophers to grab the early lead to force the Badgers out of their game plan.

Re: Minnesota hosts Wisconsin: 1/16 & 1/17

The Gophers are 8-1 when leading after one. The badgers... haven't led after one.

Well, there you go. Both teams have a very simple game plan: do whatever it takes to score first and be leading after twenty minutes!

Re: Minnesota hosts Wisconsin: 1/16 & 1/17

Since becky won't get over the offensive blue line in the 1st period, we should just pull Wilcox to start the game and play some 6 on 5 for awhile.

Re: Minnesota hosts Wisconsin: 1/16 & 1/17

Badgers employed a stronger forecheck and played more of a possession game against BU effectively limiting their best player, Jack Eichel's time with the puck on Friday.

One would think they might employ a similar strategy against the gofer's best player by far- Seth Ambroz.

Re: Minnesota hosts Wisconsin: 1/16 & 1/17

Pretty hard for me to say how things are going to go tonight. Badgers have shown they can get up and play well against top 10 teams like UND, DU, Tech and BU-- but they've obviously been flat and not played very well against teams in the tank and also-rans like the Gofers...

Re: Minnesota hosts Wisconsin: 1/16 & 1/17

I can see a low scoring, tight checking game tonight, 2-1 or 3-2 type game.

Rumpel is very solid, it will take quite a bit to beat him.
