Minnesota hosts SCSU: 11/27 & 11/29

Re: Minnesota hosts SCSU: 11/27 & 11/29

I am not arguing that it wasn't cheap and he doesn't deserve to sit. But I don't think he lined up a shot to the head from 20 feet away. Looked like he tried to line up for a big hit on a guy looking down, but actually was going to miss him so stuck out his elbow to at least catch his head so the SCSU player didn't get by. Not an excuse. Still malicious hit. But not a premeditated cheap shot that you describe. Just like the knee to knee shots seen every year. The guy doesn't say in his mind, 'I am going over to take that guys knee out'. He realizes he is missing his check and sticks a leg out to catch him. Malicious is like the hit that ended Ballards career.
Sticking your arm out to catch a guy in the head isn't pre-meditated? He missed the check because he was building up a full head of steam so he could destroy the guy. One way or another he wanted to hurt him.

So you think Seeler skated towards him thinking, 'forget the check, I'm taking his head off?". Making a big hit was premeditated. Lots of guys try to make big hits. Hitting his head was reactionary (not unavoidable). I'd be willing to bet he regretted it when he saw the player down, just like most guys who take out a knee by sticking their knee out on a missed hit do. While playing hockey I've seen enough of injuries and cheapshots. Most are a decent guy getting caught up in the play and doing something stupid. Can only think of a couple guys who seriously were big enough *****holes that injury was actual intent. Guys who play physical are valued, especially at the NHL level. Guys like Cal Clutterbuck who hit everything that moves can throw the other team off their game and fire up teammates and a home crowd. Doesn't make them inherently bad people, even if it is frustrating to watch such a player on an opposing team. Not worth arguing anymore though.

I understand this is his third offense as far as cheap hits go in 3 years. Any truth to that? If so 1 game was a joke in the first place and if indeed it is his third such offense then it's even more of a joke.

It was a dirty hit, should get 2 games (I think he's out the next game already, correct me if I'm wrong).

If I were running things this would have been more than a 1-game suspension. But precedent has been set, and virtually no hit in any league garners more than a 1-game suspension.

Haven't there been 2 games when player was seriously injured in the past?

Looking at the VIDEO again, Seeler took two backstrides and clearly set his sights on contact to the head. I think Seeler's hit was intentional. The Big Ten suspended him today for one game. Article

Re: Minnesota hosts SCSU: 11/27 & 11/29

I don't think any of us will know what was going through his mind at the time but it did look intentional, like he wanted to hit the guy high and hard (no letting up whatsoever) after lining him up for 5 to 10 feet (my estimate). That crap has to stop, and when you consider that such hits can be career ending one game suspensions simply are not enough of a deterrent.
