Minnesota hosts Colorado College: Jan 20-21

Re: Minnesota hosts Colorado College: Jan 20-21

He'd have to be an idiot to change goalies. This one has far better numbers on the season and effectively stole this game.

Re: Minnesota hosts Colorado College: Jan 20-21

How is it that Blood doesn't pick up a suspension from the WCHA? The message to everyone else is that unsportsmanship after a hard fought series is A OK. Stupid!

Re: Minnesota hosts Colorado College: Jan 20-21

CC goes down faster than a prom queen.

MN sweeps.

I don't care what anyone says - your sister deserved that crown.

CC sweeps. :D

... (The better team lost tonight, not that CC didn't play a good game.)

Not gonna argue with that. Gophers totally shut down CC's power play, but fortunately the Tiger kill came through big-time on that CFB major by CC's Archie Skalbeck. Minn also had the better chances by far, but Josh Thorimbert showed Richard Bachman-like calmness in goal for CC and let the play come to him. CC's top line was MIA, but awesome goals by their second and third units...with Tim Hall moving into Skalbeck's spot and getting the GWG.

Had the TV sound turned down while watching the game, listening to CC's radio call instead, but the replay just came on FSN. Just heard Anthony LaPanta making this comment before the game:

The Gophers remain tied for the WCHA lead - a spot they'll try to hold onto in the series opener against Colorado College.

As some guy once said, "Mission Accomplished!" :)

Keeps working him back in--played him last weekend in the 5-4 OT lose to the Cloudies.

Re: Minnesota hosts Colorado College: Jan 20-21

LaPanta is an idiot. Of course MN will hold onto first place tonight - Duluth is hosting a non-conference series with Huntsville.

Re: Minnesota hosts Colorado College: Jan 20-21

Congrats CC. Therimbort stood on his head to save the game.

How much bad juju can the Gophers withstand?! It was as bad as it could get tonight.

Yes, the CC goalie was outstanding but the Gophers should have found a way. Hey, maybe crash the net a bit more on the five minute. Hit the net when you have an odd man and a trailer. I don't know. This is the real Gopher team we're seeing now. They're good and will many more games but they're no shoe in. They will certainly be much better next year when the d matures a bit.

They found many ways. The puck gave them the middle finger. It just wasn't our night. :( It's unreal how much it's happened to this institution in the past few years. We do everything but....

Re: Minnesota hosts Colorado College: Jan 20-21

MN has done a great job getting to 3rd base. They just keep getting thrown out in close plays at the plate.

Re: Minnesota hosts Colorado College: Jan 20-21

Any bets on how long it takes before Gurt, Dirty, RWD and the like, invade this thread to discuss their obsession with the Gophers?

My bet is Tuesday, 3:00 pm. Unless JDUBBS posts before then, then I change my guess to 5 minutes after he posts. :)

I am guessing they will cry that UM plays CC on Hockey Day MN and not UMD, SCSU, BSU, or Kato.

I am also guessing RWD will cry beacause I refer to MN as UM and not UofM TC. It must be tough to be the little brother even after you win a Natty. :D How did that Natty help with with the top MN kids in recruiting?? hmm...Fasching and Cammarata will look good at The "U" ;)

Yeah, I don't have anything useful to say.... per usual. But had to get my post in here so I could see the mark when they all invade so I can join the fun as well.

That's a good point. I've already seen a UMD fan or two whining on twitter about the fact they are not involved.

Nope, you need to be poised and ready to go when the thread is overrun by unrelated fan bases. :p

Is it 3:00pm Tuesday yet?

And we have an early entrant...

Bragging rights, I guess? :)

Game day and we're at 40 posts? Are we all that worn out from dealing with maroons from UND (and RWD, and Gurt) last week? Are we as fans going through a mid season slump? Unacceptable!

Some of us are in shock over the loss (hopefully temporary) of GPL! There is some NoDak moron fatigue too in there.

So is there anything going on in CC beyond just one player being suspended? Is Scotty facing any bad attitude among the troops? Is ronmexico still a Gopher fan?

ETA: And for me, I'm still p***ed that I had to sell my tickets for this series to go to a kids' hockey tournament instead. :(

Start the clock! :p :D

You do realize my post was a jab at the other people who have some apparant obsession with responding to your every post, right?

Decided to check in last night and see that I've been missed. The fact is that you guys can't carry a thread without us.

Unfortunately, other than hoping you lose every game that you play, I really don't spend every day dwelling on you guys, so you'll have to find a way to stand on your own.

It's a good feeling to know that you are wanted though, makes my inner butterfly soar, so thanks for that. :)

PS - That was like 11 out of 55 posts, or 20% (simple math) of your game thread posts related to other fans' apparent obsession with the Gophers when in fact no other teams' fans actually posted.

Tee Hee! :p:D

I really hope that someday you realize people don't give a hell what you think. Ugh.

They could have done a little more on the major P, but otherwise they didn't get the bounces. The first CC goal was actually the result of a Gopher poking the puck away from a CC player and right to the goal scorer. There was the chance Hanson had with an open net where the puck bounced just as he tried to sweep it in, giving the goalie time to recover. There were a couple plays where the Gophs had an opening and punched it into the side of the net instead of the opening. There was the puck standing up on Condon's rush. Even the winning goal, if Schmidt hadn't touched it, it stays in front of Patterson and there is no goal. Or the stop on Rau.....
Lots of things just didn't go right. I have trouble faulting the Gophs for that loss. It just wasn't their night and CC played well. I think if they played that game 5 times with that level of effort from each team, and Gophs win 4 of 5. It sucks for us Gopher fans, but at least they didn't play poorly on Friday again. (Not sure what is worse though, losing because of poor play, or losing when you feel you did everything to win.)

I will take the effort with the fluky loss. In the long run you win more games that way than when you play like $#%& every Friday.

It was a good game to watch last night. Not playing CC will be the worst part of leaving the WCHA. I like their style of hockey but I don't see us scheduling them very often.

The defense played a good game last night. They eliminated most of their major mistakes. That is a good sign.

which saves did he make that make you think the goalie stole the game? i dont remember the gophers getting robbed much.

Arm on the goal line in the first period was one of them. The puck HAD to be on the line for that, and he saved it. And a couple of those 11-guys-in-the-crease (seemed like it, anyway) sequences, he made some stops.

Re: Minnesota hosts Colorado College: Jan 20-21

true. he made some nice saves. i just get tired of the "hot goalie" excuse. condon got a bad shot off on the break away. rau hit the pipe in the.. 2nd i think. they got a 5 minute major in the 3rd and im not even sure if they got any shots on goal. they didnt capitalize when they had opportunities. and there were a lot of battles in the crease like you said, but they werent getting the puck on net in the scrambles. it was just kind of hacking away without requiring any saves from the CC goalie in those scrambles.

The Gophers gave UND a beatdown last Sat., but many of the goals were from odd-man rushes, if I recall. I was left wondering if they will be as good at getting the grinder goals to go the distance this year. They certainly have the speed, size, and skill to match up against anybody. Attitude too, it looks like.

Agreed. I love watching these two teams play each other, especially since they both play on the big ice. Last night's game had great flow and speed, and was very entertaining (as always between these two).

Both teams have been bad on Friday nights lately, so something had to give, I guess. I thought they both played well. For his second game in a row, Josh Thorimbert may have stolen a win.

From the standpoint of a CC fan, that 5 minute PK was a thing of BEAUTY!

Re: Minnesota hosts Colorado College: Jan 20-21

Hell of a series to watch, highly entertaining.
Good luck the rest of the way, Tigers.
