Minnesota High School Hockey '10-'11

We've had a thread like this in the past, but I didn't see it in the search...

Anyway, Bemidji is having a heck of a season (14-1-1), but hasn't gotten much respect so far (ranked #17 in the Let's Play Hockey Poll). They did, however, just beat Roseau 7-3 last night, so maybe a win over a traditional AA power (they have beaten Warroad, Thief River, and EGF x2, but wins over A teams don't seem to count for much...) will finally move them up. Either way, they are in good position for a top-2 seed in 8AA with wins already over Roseau (7-7) and St. Cloud Tech (8-5-1), and their tie vs. Moorhead (7-4-1).

Bemidji's next game is a big one Friday vs. Brainerd (11-4), so if anyone is up for the BSU/SCSU series, come early and catch that game. It's at 5:30 pm two blocks from Sanford Center at Nymore Arena... And then Sat, BHS plays Hermantown @ 4, also @ Nymore.

Saw #2 Duluth East and #1 Eden Prairie yesterday. Despite getting outshot 32-14, East won 4-3 in OT, taking them up from #3.

Re: Minnesota High School Hockey '10-'11

I think the most important thing to remember is that Hill Murray will win the state title. The rest is just chatter. :D

It is an interesting year. At this point you could make an argument for about 10 teams, or more that could win the title in AA. It should be an exciting tournament.

Re: Minnesota High School Hockey '10-'11

Last two weeks of the regular season. The top seed in Section 8AA will be decided tomorrow night when Moorhead (14-6-1) visits Bemidji (19-2-1). These teams tied 1-1 at the Moorhead Sports Center back in December.

I think you can still make a case for several teams to win it all. Should be fun to follow the section play-offs and state tourney!

It is a total jumble this year. A beats B who beats C who then beats A, ad infinitum. Several very good teams and no real clear favorite yet. Maybe HM right now. Old axiom applies - which ever goalie gets hot may carry that team.

ETA: Spaced out for a moment and had DE in there instead of Hill. :o

And now a 2-2 tie at the Bemidji Community Arena. The Lumberjacks should get the top seed in 8AA since they went 6-0 vs. everyone not named Moorhead in the section, while the Spuds went 5-1 vs. everyone not named Bemidji (loss to Roseau back in December). We'll find out for sure next Wednesday.

Re: Minnesota High School Hockey '10-'11

Spring Lake Park beat BSM 2-1 last night. This year makes no sense.

Indeed. Sectionals will be fun!

ETA: Just saw this on a MN High School Hockey forum, the transitive function on scores:

Holy Angels loses their first game in the Missota Conference on over 10 years tonight, 5-3 to Chaska. Hmmm

Re: Minnesota High School Hockey '10-'11

Holy Angels needs to find a better conference. Terrible fit for the Missota. There should be a conference of: AHA, STA, BSM, CDH, TG, HM, Breck, Blake...you know what I'm getting at.

Re: Minnesota High School Hockey '10-'11

So how is that the top 3 point getters and top 14 goal scorers don't make it as finalists for Mr. Hockey but there are 5 finalist with under 50 points so far including Steve Fogarty who has only 35 point so far...seems like a popularity contest to me...gotta make sure all the big programs are represented...plus Brainerd I guess.

Edina played Minnetonka last night. Mankato West played Austin. Of course the kid at Mankato West is going to have more points. Does that mean he's better? Nick DeCenzo got shut out when Hibbing played Minnetonka too. He just happened to be able to run up big totals against Greenway, I Falls, etc. Points is a completely useless measure in HS hockey because strength of schedule is so wildly divergent between teams.

The only one I would have considered was Tyler Heinonen over Hendrickson, Daly, or Bahe. They weren't going to pick him over two kids that already have WCHA offers, and Bahe has had a pretty good career and is the best player on the best team right now.

So the kid from Mankato West should be penalized because his parents don't live in the metro? Tyler Heinonen should be a finalist. He has a point in every game and at least one goal in 21 of Delano's 22 games. What more can he do?

Who says he's being penalized? He's being judged by how he plays on the ice. If he was playing well enough to earn a scholarship to a major college program and be in line to be drafted by the NHL like Fogarty, then he probably would have been a finalist.

a scholarship to a major college program and getting drafted by an NHL team is about POTENTIAL, not about being one of the 10 best players in Minnesota Hockey right now.
