Minnesota Gophers vs Michigan Wolverines: 2/25-2/26 A big BIG series

Re: Minnesota Gophers vs Michigan Wolverines: 2/25-2/26 A big BIG series

Hell yeah!!
Gritty, gritty win tonight. I'm just glad total goals don't count in these series :)

Brent's right, though. When the Gophers lost that game to PSU in Minneapolis that pretty much sealed their PWR fate. I think we are in the same situation as last year. Win the Big 10 Tournament and we won't need the autobid, lose and we won't qualify.

But you never know....sometimes goofy things can happen. But the guys gotta beat the teams they are supposed to from here on out.

MTU losing to Alaska would have helped. It's stuff like THAT that would make a difference. The MTU-AK game was close, but alas, no go.

It's gonna take a whole lot of "stuff like that" ;)

The Big 10 is not horrible, far from it. The teams that make up the Big 10 have more combined national championships than the combined total of any other conference in college hockey. It just so happens that two teams (Wisconsin and Michigan State) happen to be going through an uncharacteristically down period right now, that doesn't make the conference horrible. In time those two teams will soon enough return to their rightful place next to Michigan and Minnesota as perennial national championship contenders.

Sorry. You gotta have ****cakes in a conference

Just like the SEC has perennial also-rans the big6 will have 2 teams who every year suck ***. 1 who is in the "citrus bowl" caliber .500 once every 4 years. One who makes the cotton bowl 1/3. Then an Alabama and a lsu

Just hope you ain't the vandy

Re: Minnesota Gophers vs Michigan Wolverines: 2/25-2/26 A big BIG series

Same old ****.

Now people know why I'm so down on this team despite its great record at the surface.

"Blah blah you're still #6 in the PWR"

That can change in a heartbeat in this league given over half of it is garbage.

Even though it was a bomb, no screen. Racine should probably make that save from that distance.

Racine has done this four times this year. Once at PSU, last week at Wisconsin and twice tonight. Not to mention the two late goals yesterday and the game-tying goal with 1 second left at OSU.

He is very lazy back there and has the reflexes of a dead animal if you surprise him with a quick shot outside the crease area.

Re: Minnesota Gophers vs Michigan Wolverines: 2/25-2/26 A big BIG series

Even if MN wins out, and loses the B1G Tourney to MI in the title game, they are most likely out of the tournament, barring some bizarre things.

Basically, it's B1G Or Bust.

The way they are playing now for sure they would have won more games at the beginning of the year.

Re: Minnesota Gophers vs Michigan Wolverines: 2/25-2/26 A big BIG series

Great win for the Gophers tonight in OT. Really happy for the guys, they worked hard and got rewarded. Congrats to Hudson Fasching, a great kid who has really elevated his game this season. Great series Michigan! See you in the tourney. The laser by Fasching >> OT GAME WINNING GOAL

I dunno about that, given the SOS at the beginning of the year.

Not to burst your bubble mook, but the vaunted NCHC has two of the worst defensive teams in the NCAA, worst than OSU, Wisconsin or MSU. They'd suck in the AHC. But, yes you are correct for the most part.

Just needed to get to the shootout even if Michigan didn't score in OT. Great crowd behind the Gophs too, made some of the make up calls easy after all the beyatching that was going on. Three long shots that any decent goaltender stops. But that is today's Michigan.

Well, Harvard, Cornell, UNO, and Lowell all lost, so there's that. Those are the 4 teams right ahead of the Gophers, Penn st didn't play.

Don't know about that. OK one for sure was a once a career wiff.

IMO more importantly, you will never win with 2 goals.

Yes, but even with those teams losing it's going to be really hard for the Gophers to move up, while at the same time easier for the teams right behind the Gophers to move up. Even if the Gophers win out all the way to the Big 10 Tournament title game.

Two reasons:

1 - Gophers just don't have an opportunity to improve their RPI. The only 2 teams they have the potential to play that could improve their RPI are PSU and Mich, and they are only going to get 1 game, and it's going to be the game that carries the autobid anyway.

2 - Gophers are losing 3 comparisons to teams they have a better RPI than (Duluth, Mankato, Bemidji). It's impossible to flip those comparisons back to the Gophers. That's a pretty massive problem for trying to move up.

Or getting out shot 12-3 in the critical 3rd period of a tie game that will likely decide the conference champion.

Yeah, see that now. The PWR is just unkind this year. Or rather, the Gophers losing to its instate rivals and Harvard were pretty brutal to its prospects.

And I know I'm about the only one to believe this...but a B1G season win would be a mighty fine consolation. Once conference championships are won, they're in the bank. When you get to the tourney...its not worth much if you just lose.

Was the second Michigan goal a hand pass?
