Home ice must be the goal this year. The extra three games might generate enough fans to almost make up for all the empty seats.

If the Gophers can sweep UAA, MTU, and split the remaining series at the very least (8-9/14 G), statistically I think they have a shot at home ice for the playoffs.

So really our goal is JUST to get home ice???? How pathetic we have fallen.....

Re: Minnesota Gophers Season Thread: Kangas Kool-Aid For All!

I don't know if you remember my posts earlier about needing a more aggressive PK with the speed the Gophs have, but apparently Lucia is still reading my posts for advice. Lucia quote from Roman's column in Star Trib:

"We need to be aggressive. We have been too passive at times. Like the second game against UMD we were a little more aggressive and on our toes. We have some guys who can skate. We will try to be a little bit more aggressive the second half of the year. You can’t be crazy but, at the same time, you have to be anticipating and be ready to jump."

It looks like Mankato and Bemidji may be set for a good second half run. Also Michigan Tech. is even starting to play a bit better than at the start of the season, who knows how well they will be playing by late February. Getting home ice in the WCHA won't be easy that's for sure. Getting into the NCAAs looks nearly impossible.

Hopefully this season truly is a rebuilding year and there will be no need to add 10 freshmen to your roster next season.

LOL

I don't see anything about this team next year or with who is coming in that changes any of the dynamics that are in play now.

Care to give up on 2018-2019 as well?

No, but like many very established and much more well liked posters than myself, I've come to the resolution that unless something changes nothing is going to change.

and, I assuming that hakstool chokes again worse than the Candian WJC team in the NCAA's, so maybe were even.

Re: Minnesota Gophers Season Thread: Kangas Kool-Aid For All!

I guess we'll have to see how the 2nd half goes but if it's the same old mediocre play then I may finally throw in the towel and say they need a change. I have been trying to holdout thinking like that because I do think tDon is a good coach and 02 and 03 was such a great ride. Maybe I was also buying into the whole early departures, injuries, parity thing but 3 years of playing .500 needs to get addressed somehow.

Who knows maybe Bjugstad and Haula will pump some life into them for a 2nd half run... I can hope.

That's a double edged sword. To have hope for next year the underclassmen are going to have to start making a jump now.

Those that make the jump have a higher chance of jumping to the NHL.

That's been the trend and it hasn't been good.

Re: Minnesota Gophers Season Thread: Kangas Kool-Aid For All!

IF the Gophers can solve the inconsistency issue they may do well enough for home ice in the playoffs. An NCAA berth is more remote. Based on what we saw against UMD, Mich. and CC the potential is there to beat some good teams. I have a feeling we'll see some good wins against tough teams in the 2nd half. Whether it will be enough for a postseason run remains to be seen.
