Minnesota Gophers Season Thread 2015-16

Re: Minnesota Gophers Season Thread 2015-16

Now that it's over, who's the most disappointing gopher player for you guys this year? I only saw Minnesota 3 or 4 times this year and you can tell there is high-end talent but that talent didn't seem to click very often.

Re: Minnesota Gophers Season Thread 2015-16

1. Collins
2. Cammarata/Lettieri/Gates. Gates...
3. Glover
4. Romanko/Michaelson/Ramsey contributing ZERO goals.

I could go on and ranking them is tough.

I posted mine, #734 above.

Not big on being negative towards players in general. But Collins can be dangerous.

Re: Minnesota Gophers Season Thread 2015-16

On a brighter note, congratulations to the Gopher women on their 3-1 win over Boston College and bringing home the National Championship trophy! :)

Re: Minnesota Gophers Season Thread 2015-16

A couple of thoghts:
* Fasching was very inconsistent and streaky this year. If he comes back, I'd like to see some improvement in game to game presence. He disappeared for large stretches of the season

I don't think so unless you want to say the same about Kyle Rau. Fasching in his junior season had more consistent scoring beginning with Big Ten play and ending with the Big Ten Tourney (26 games/Dec.-March) than Kyle Rau did during the same period his senior season.

1) Fasching (Junior year, 26 games/Dec.-March): 16-14-30 (1.15 pts/game), 8 games no pts. (max. 2 game streak). Tied for 2nd in the NCAA with Kyle Connor (Mich.), Joey Benik (SCSU), Drake Caqqiula (UND), and Teddy Blueger (MSUM) in GWG (7).

2) Rau (Senior year, 26 games/Dec.-March): 16-10-26 (1.00 pts/game), 8 games no pts. (max. 4 game streak). Ranked 40th in the NCAA in GWG (4).

This was a breakout year for Hudson who increased his goal scoring by 40%, buried some big GWG and his leadership on and off the ice was very effective. Great attitude, hard worker, excellent student-athlete.

Yep. I figured whoever won the Badger-Gopher game would be National Champs -- 2 **** good teams.

Re: Minnesota Gophers Season Thread 2015-16

Cammy and Vinni have no business being on a most disappointing list. Cammy had some poor play for a stretch leading up to the break, but after he was much more effective and consistent, and you even saw him throwing his body around some in both games this weekend. Vinni never stops working his *** off and while on occasion makes a goof, he just hasn't been able to finish but I didn't expect him to be a huge scorer this season. And not saying it's going to happen the same way, but didn't Motte from UMi have only 8 goals coming into his Jr year?

Re: Minnesota Gophers Season Thread 2015-16

Disappointing = not meeting expectations. Cammy's production was lower than his last two seasons. He was a junior and needed to step up. On what planet is that not disappointing?

Lettieri less so. He turned it on at the end of the year. I was grouping that line together more than anything (or what used to be a line), mostly because Gates looked lost all year.

If you were a Gopher player nicknamed "Cammy" you did ok this year, IMO. ;)

Context is how. I said he had a poor run early, but of his 19 points 11 were scored in the last 15 games which would give him the same exact overall production his first 2 years.

We are judging their season. Poor play at the start is a major reason they are not playing next weekend.

Re: Minnesota Gophers Season Thread 2015-16

He also had points against ND, MSUM, UCONN and SCSU. I'm not going to say his entire season was disappointing so we'll have to agree to disagree.

You can't realistically blame a poor start on any particular player. If you want to place blame on players for a poor start, blame the entire group of upperclassmen. I think it's obvious that starting with 11 additional freshman (which is almost half the the team), typically teams, inc. upperclassmen with freshman linemates, need time to develop their identity and chemistry and that's what I see happened early. There was marked improvement as the season progressed.

There is another certain team that is notorious for starting slow, then lowering the boom in the 2nd half of the season, too. I agree cannot blame one player. Cohesiveness, development, etc, are season-long traits. That is what you should judge a team/players on.
