Minnesota Gophers Season Thread 2015-16

Re: Minnesota Gophers Season Thread 2015-16

does anyone here know anything about the Halladay kid that was committed and committed to Merrimack today? Anyone know why he's not going to the U anymore?

Minnesota has some quality goalies lined up for the next few years, including the freshman starting this season. This has been in the works for a while now, the departing of ways between Halladay and the Gophers.

Just didn't pan out with him, it happens.

that's what I figured. Didn't know if there was a backstory there because according to a press release he signed a letter of intent.

Was disappointed to see Gavin Hain committing to UND. He's watched Gophers over the years. Jury is still out on who got the better Grand Rapids Soph commit.

Re: Minnesota Gophers Season Thread 2015-16

Looks like the Gopher team from the first few weeks showed up today. Not a lot of effort. Looked like they figured scoring 9 on Badgers means they don't have to try to beat Beavers, so just had to wait to play SCSU. They can't afford many nights off and blew a good chance to test themselves against SCSU and try to get a little revenge. Disappointing.

Another tough night for the perpetually declining stinky town, perennial powerhouse #34Bemidji State beats pride on ice UMTC 4-2 at their own tournament hosted at the Xcel Energy center in front of another 2,000 fans. Is there any end to this slippery slide into the tubes?!

I thought the Kloos line looked pretty good, the Beavers did a very good job neutralizing the Novak line, and the bottom 2 lines failed to show much of anything. That 2nd BSU goal resulted from a total mess in the defensive zone by the 3rd line and Collins. Not sure what Collins was thinking chasing the BSU player all the way up to the top of the circles and then releasing him, just casually floating back down in front of Schierhorn.

Bemidji's first goal was some really relentless, good play by the Beavers. Their 3rd resulted from a panicky penalty by Seeler and then a fortuitous ricochet. The 2nd goal, though....that was just ugly defensive zone play.

There's another thread going on right now that shows win% nation-wide by number of goals scored, and it mirrors what Lucia preaches - "get to 3." The Gophers couldn't find a way to do it today. Kloos' line did their part, and Novak's line looked to be given the lion's share of attention by the Beavers. That means you need to find a a goal from another source, and that other source was no where to be found tonight.

On to tomorrow. They have to salvage this weekend as merely a missed opportunity rather than another nail in the coffin in terms of the PWR. The Gophers aren't completely out of contention for an at-large bid, but my feeling is that they can only afford 1 or maybe 2 (depending on who those 2 are against) more loss(es) from now until the NCAA Tournament.

At times, first two lines looked good, but the whole team, for stretches played more of a 'wait and react' approach rather than hard effort. Often showed in stretches where they had trouble breaking out because they couldn't connect a few passes together cleanly. They put themselves too far in the hole in the beginning of the year to take nights off now.

Re: Minnesota Gophers Season Thread 2015-16

Last week, seeing Novak on the ice, I didn't expect to see him this weekend. What isn't a surprise is that another Badger is out a game. Wasn't solway the one who got 2 minutes for what should have been a CFB last week? Eaves is doing a great job of teaching his players. Wonder if he argued the call last night.

Re: Minnesota Gophers Season Thread 2015-16

Heading down to the X again in a little bit, hoping for a different result today. Hope the guys put yesterday behind them and play hard for the entire 60 minutes.

Have you ever considered that the Gophers are playing hard but just arent as good? It isnt like Mankato is Army.

Ummmm... all the time? This team can definitely play better than they did this weekend though. They do stink this season, however. Oh well back to the cupcake conference schedule.

Re: Minnesota Gophers Season Thread 2015-16

Maybe it would be good for Arizona State to join the big 10. gonna lose to Merrimack 15-0
