Minnesota Gophers Season Thread 2015-16

Re: Minnesota Gophers Season Thread 2015-16

Agreed, reminiscent of last season when they couldn't hit the broad side of a barn. Even if you're going for a one or three hole, hit the net!
People will come back and say we get a lot of SOG still, but I don't think I've seen a SOG/shots attempted stat on how we compared to other programs.

The guy behind me at the game on Saturday said the Gophers need to shoot more. The Gophers promptly had back to back shots get blocked and UVM cleared the zone while the Gophers were on the PP. I said, "There's a couple shots...happy now?!". I just loooooooove when people yell "shoot" at the games.

Funny, and so true. :)

I had two 16 year olds talking the entire game and swearing constantly, which doesn't bother me but the fact they have no idea how they sound with adults around kills me. You really have to get lucky at games these days.

Not surprising, the Generation Z learn to swear at 6 years old. Scary.

If there are no kids around me, and yes I check, I pretty much free-wheel on the cussing and don't watch what I say.

If there are kids, not even a "damn" escapes my lips. "Sucks" is the worst I'll say.

That's respect brother. You would have fit right into the locker room last night for our first league hockey game of the season. The jokes were risque and hilarious, and the F-bombs were dropin'.:D

We're men / We're men in tights / We roam around the forest looking for fights / We're men / We're men in tights / We rob from the rich and give to the poor / That's right! / We may look like sissies / But watch what you say / Or else we'll put out your lights / We're men / We're men in tights

Re: Minnesota Gophers Season Thread 2015-16

We don''t have an offensive D this season, but I envision there will be some offensive surge at times from Brodz, Seeler and Bischoff...

I should clarify, I'm not talking about offensive production from the D. I think Brodz will put up decent numbers, and we have a handful of other guys that can step into that as well. I'm talking more specifically about puck moving - that is to say, not talking about how well they put up points, but how well they gain zones either with their feet or with their hands.

Still looking for our first win. Any guesses as to when this might come?

Re: Minnesota Gophers Season Thread 2015-16

well, given how the game against Vermont went, I was pleasantly surprised by how well MN hung in there with Duluth last night. Tonight, after the first 28 minutes, I thought the Gophers actually had the better of the play. They still seemed to lack the quality to convert that into high-percentage chances and goals, but I was actually pretty pleased with the way they played those final 32 minutes or so. And it was against a VERY solid team.

1 goal in three games - not good.
1-13(?) on the PP - not good.
9GA in 3 games (not counting the empty net) - eh, not very good.
But they seem to be getting better. That's the most important thing.

The big test is next weekend. This is a series where they need to, and really should, have some success. A couple wins would do a lot for their confidence, the fans' confidence, and to plug this PWR hole they are at the risk of falling into.

I'd interpret that a bit differently.

8 GA in 3 games not counting empty net or good for about 22nd in the country? Acceptable.
0.33 goals per game or good for dead last in D1? Horrible.

As often is the case, this is not on our defense. When we lose historically, its been because we don't put the puck in the net. Guess what, we're not putting the puck in the net. Its just the facts...until we can score more than 2 a game, we'll lose.

Re: Minnesota Gophers Season Thread 2015-16

Anyone have tickets for the Northeastern series they aren't going to use?

Also, any suggestions for pre/post-game activities near the arena?

Not sure about tickets but after the start this team has had I'd imagine you won't have trouble finding any.

I know a bunch of Gopher people go to Sally's before the games. Stub and Herb's is another place pretty close to the arena in Stadium Village as well as a BDubs which is right by the arena.

Re: Minnesota Gophers Season Thread 2015-16

We will win a game this weekend. It may be ugly, but we'll pull one off. Write that down.

I'm also in the camp that our offense is the main problem as of now, if you can score some goals that takes pressure off the goalie and D. Knowing that we don't score much puts huge pressure on the D and goalie, probably the whole team is gripping the sticks a bit. Most of our shots have come from about Fridley, being a little closer to the net may help, I'm no expert though.
