That was a good showing. Nothing like a good Spartan spanking to get your team going again. Need to repeat tomorrow.

Re: Minnesota Gophers Season Thread: 2014-2015

Can't say I expected to already have 5 losses (counting U-18) with a team that only lost 5 during the season last year, and lost little in the way of scoring. A tie was disappointing. Yeah, 3 pts on the road in the conference is supposed to be good, but given the way they have stumbled before that, I wanted the sweep. Still not sure many guys have made the step up I expected. Lot's of time to come together, but would like to have seen stretches of dominating play by now against a team that seems to be trying equally hard. (Didn't see BC game so don't know how they looked.)

Re: Minnesota Gophers Season Thread: 2014-2015

Considering we ended up with 4 out of 6 pts. in both of last year's series against Michigan State, I can't be too hard on the club. I think they played better this weekend in some respects. It was nice to see Boyd back out there and I certainly liked seeing C. Reilly on the scoresheet. He was one of the guys I was hoping would step up. Hopefully his production this weekend will be an omen for his performance in the second half

Even if the league is down, you can never assume you'll get a road sweep. Well... maybe you can if you are playing in Madison this year. :D

A lot of us will move to the edge of the cliff if Bucky gets a win against Goldy....

I wasn't surprised by the deadlock in regulation. On paper, MSU is actually deeper and better than they were last season, especially on the blue line; and the guys that are back know they can skate with the Gophers.

The loss to U-18 was an anomaly that came at a down time when they needed to find some identity as "this years" team. The break will give them time to reflect, get it figured out and get ready for a second half push to the postseason. There's no question, this is one of the most talented teams in college hockey. If they consistently play as team with the kind of work ethic and aggressive puck control we've seen in stretches of the first half, I like our chances for a deep postseason run.

Nothing wrong with a win and a tie on the road against a squad that was desperate for pts, unless you're playing becky.

With Boyd and Skjei back in the lineup we will see the wins start to pile up in the 2nd half.

Parody, Parity, Tomato, to-maht-o, lets just call the whole thing off...

Friday they looked great. Saturday, not so much. Seems to be a minor trend for the last few series. Hopefully the break can get their heads straight starting with the Mariucci Classic.

Re: Minnesota Gophers Season Thread: 2014-2015

Hold that thought.

Lucia reporting that Skjei has an upper body injury that will keep him out of the lineup into next year.

Doesn't really tell us much since they don't have a game until next year. Could mean only a couple games. Would be nice to know more.

Bummer, hopefully just for a game or two.

Could be interesting if Bristedt Fasching and Collins all make their world junior teams, then throw in Skjei out on top of that. The teams coming in for the Mariucci Classic are pretty solid this year, PWR will be huge with Mass Lowell and Merrimack both relevant.

Re: Minnesota Gophers Season Thread: 2014-2015

Sounds like Skjei will be out for the Merrimack\Umass Lowell -RIT games for sure, that's too bad.

Would have been nice to have the team close to full strength for those important NC games.

Re: Minnesota Gophers Season Thread: 2014-2015

We'd be in trouble if Collins gets selected to the WJC team. We'd only have six drafted defensemen in the lineup. Never mind.

I realize not the right place, but anyone hear anything about former Goph Ballard? That was a scary moment last night.

Out of the hospital, but three fractures in his face and a concussion. Waiting on the swelling to go down to determine if surgery is necessary. He's out indefinately. With his concussion history, he could be out for a while. Hoping he makes a full recovery soon. Scary stuff indeed.

Was at the game, I have never seen a gurney on the ice that fast. Was very scary.
