Regardless of whether it's an exhibition game or not, if you wear the "M" you play to win, no exceptions. The Gophers were outshot by U18, 40-29, and it appears the goal scoring woes among some top players continued. Moreover, when a team allows two U18 players, Matthews (2-1-3) and Tkachuk (1-2-3) a total of 18 SOG, and some of your best players end up with a goal differential of -2 (Fasching, Kloos, M. Reilly, Bischoff), that's a very poor defensive effort. IMHO Nick Lehr was left out to dry tonight. Nick is a **** good goalie and had one of the top performances in the NAHL last season with a 35-13-1 record with a .932 S% and a 1.84 GAA.
The U18 team was 1-4-1 against college teams going into tonight:
Sat Oct 4 W 3-0 @ Miami University
Mon Oct 6 L 4-7 @ University of Michigan
Thu Oct 16 T 3-3 @ Providence College
Sat Oct 18 L 4-6 @ Boston University
Fri Oct 24 L 2-3 @ Cornell University
Sat Oct 25 L 3-5 @ Oswego State University
Not exactly a confidence builder for Gophers who are headed out east next week to face BC. They better show a much better effort than they've demonstrated over the last 3 games or they will be embarrassed again.
