Oh well then, wrap it up the season is over.
Need a Serratore type to step up. They seem to cruise a lot, like they expect to win on skill alone at times. They should be able to overwhelm teams with speed if they could learn to play with intensity. Just don't show it though. They overwhelmed ND, but that was half because ND didn't show up for 4.5 periods. This is getting hard to watch.
I do think the energy/intensity has lacked a bit in the two series we had with SCSU and UMD. The opponent played like they saw it as a rivalry and brought that kind of energy to the table... while the Gophers mostly played like it was an exhibition. That's really the thing that bothered me. I can handle a loss if we play hard/intense and just happen to lose. But I don't like it at all when we don't bring the intensity.

Since we won't get a game thread, I'm pumped to see Auston Matthews Friday. Potential first overall, and should for sure be the highest draft pick in Mariucci since JVR.
Student section should get some Auston Matthews chants going, and maybe make a sign with his last name written with the M and some jersey photoshopping.
Psh... The badgers get their best recruits to actually commit before backing out. Nothing to lose.Too bad his narrowed-down college choices don't include Minnesota!![]()
For those of you who seem to interpret what I am saying as the sky is falling (or maybe you are just responding to Harley)...
some pretty talented D (our young guys will improve with MG),
But, but, but.... I was assured in the off-season that our D were going to step in and look as good or better than last year's D corp??![]()
but so suddenly after a rough weekend whereas he was nowhere to be found previously.

This weekend exposed our problems. 1) Our lack of depth. We knew all along that our forwards towards the bottom were weak. Our fourth line is...well...a fourth line. Nobody ever expected Isackson, Michaelson, R Reilly, or Hoglund to do that much. Just because Lettieri was tried on the third doesn't mean we should have expected him to save it (same with Isackson). The problem is we did expect big things from our third line. Boyd has delivered. IMO Ambroz has been exposed as a fourth liner which is in large part is hurting our third. 2) Scoring. Our old nemesis, lack of scoring, is looming its head. This team loses, full stop, when it doesn't score. This year its doubly true with a very solid d corp and hobey finalist in goal.
There has been nothing in our play that would lead someone to believe that we are in for a swoon. This is likely a typical tough weekend in the first half. And UMD is a great team which always plays us hard...think last year when they shellacked us and we went on to an NC game. This year who knows...but we have to fix the third line...and ensure the top two keep putting the goal in the net. And if so, this can turn into the test we needed.
Not sure I agree on Ambroz. Getting a 10+ goal, 20 pts. season like he did last year tells me he is more than the 4th line type. However, he certainly isn't the type that is going to create offense for himself. So he does need a center that can make things happen.
I think the worrying about scoring is awfully premature. Prior to this weekend, we had 3 or more goals in every game but one.
