Minnesota Gophers Season Thread: 2014-2015

Anyone out there care to comment on the play yesterday? Seems the decline in posters in just a few years has been huge.

Part of the lack of game comments could be the rough video feed we had to watch. The quality was solid but the camera jumped around quite a bit, made it a little tougher to get an overall feel for the game. For a first game I thought it was ok for the Gophers, plenty to work on in practice though.

Anyone else having trouble with the video? I'm getting "Content Unavailable" "The requested bitrate is currently not available".

Bold Prediction: The Gophers will still be undefeated after next weekend.

(just doing my part to prevent this thread about the nation's No. 1 team slip to Page 2!)

Re: Minnesota Gophers Season Thread: 2014-2015

Nice weekend opening for the Gophers. A little bit of a scare on Friday with coasting through the 3rd period, but they held on for the win, then appeared to play much more consistently the whole game Sunday.

Re: Minnesota Gophers Season Thread: 2014-2015

I thought they played much better Sunday than Friday, at least like you said more consistent throughout the whole game instead of just in spots.

I wonder where Bristedt will fit in on the lines, will he be a top 2 line guy and if so who does he replace on the top 2 lines? If he is a solid offensive type guy, that should help the whole lineup.

So let's say this year's team were to play the team from 2 years ago (Bjugstad, Haula, etc) in a 2-game series. How would it turn out?

Easy.

Wilcox is obviously in net for both teams so the score would be 0-0 in both games, he is that good. :)

Still wasn't that impressed with offense on Sunday, but defensively they played well together as a team. Didn't give up many decent chances.

My bet would be Conner Reilly as first guy to move to third line for Bridstedt, but my guess is guys will earn right to top 6 on game to game basis and we'll see more of Conner in top 6 throughout year.

need the arrow

Way too quiet around here. Have the nutjobs driven everyone away? Or just early in the season yet?

That plus everyone is trying to decide if it is too early to start with the beaver jokes.

An eager beaver?

OK, I'll start.

So a rabbi walks into a bar with a beaver on his head.

The bartender looks at him and says "hey, that's pretty cool. Where did you get that?"

And the beaver replies "Brooklyn. They're everywhere!"

What does a Bemidji State Beaver say when the flow is too strong? Dam it!

Re: Minnesota Gophers Season Thread: 2014-2015

I'll jump in on last weekend. I made the trip to South Bend...and the arena is like a very cold Ridder. As the arena was so small, the sight line from the SRO area is great.

There are thoughts that the guys looked soft on Friday. I can tell you that that was not the case. The third period was not that the Gophers fell apart...it was that the Bulldogs found their legs. They are a very good team. That Toninato, Iafallo line is awesome and might have completed the comeback. Indeed, I figured they would dispatch ND on their home ice...and indeed they dominated and dispatched ND.

Again, I'd say the Gophers looked equivalent on both Friday and Sunday...RPI is not UMD.
