Minnesota Gophers Season Thread: 2014-2015

Re: Minnesota Gophers Season Thread: 2014-2015

Not a terribly strong 97 class that I can think of, especially two years ago. If Auston Matthews wants to come here, I'd say we can adopt him as Minnesotan like we did Vanek...

But, but, but....this is Minnesota? Weak for us should be strong for anyone else.

Bristedt I would think would be a lock for ice time, after that up in the air.

No thinking necessary...even on a roster as loaded as we've had in over a decade, he should be a lock for top two line ice time. Lucia likes to groom talent...and based on his pedigree, Bristedt is a serious talent.

Great article!

Have to enjoy the ride this year, next year's team will have a much different look.

Way off topic, but I still have some Waibel Factor tshirts (new, unused) if anyone's feeling nostalgic.

Don't ask me why I kept them for a decade.

I only have my own, and one autographed by the man.

The Grand Forks Herald ran a story on Hakstol's background, which is obviously not of a lot of interest to MN fans. However, there was one little tidbit buried in the story that I don't think a lot of fans of either school know. Hakstol originally verbally committed to Alaska Fairbanks, but in his words, "it didn't work out." The coach at UAF at the time was Don Lucia.

Curious what happened there.

Didn't think the boys looked all that sharp today. Seems like they usually start a season fast compared to most teams, but they made a tough game out of one where the opposing goalie didn't look great. They got the win which is all that matters though. And maybe they will build up through the year this year. What are the potential game times on Sunday?

Don tried to greet Hak with a handshake....it went downhill from there.

Anyone out there care to comment on the play yesterday? Seems the decline in posters in just a few years has been huge.

Listened to it (sorta) at work, but seems like MN coasted in the 3rd and it showed.

As for the lack of posters, I think many either retired from here, or are just posting on GPL more (like me). D1 on this board has declined greatly overall.

I thought they lost intensity in the first half of the third, but picked it up and played well in the second half of the third to preserve the victory.

I also watched some of the RPI/Notre Dame game last night. The Gophs better be ready for RPI! They're a lot better than I expected they would be, and we know all too well how we sometimes fare against the better ECAC teams.
