Minnesota Gophers 2022-23

Indeed, no Ostertag today. We're running out of defensemen.

Both Franco and Kaiser were players that played both defense and forward in High School so they could move #29 back to defense if they needed to do that. They could roll 3 lines

Regular defensemen are #10, #5, and #28...#16 and #21 are playing as well. #6, #7, #13, 14 are out correct?

Yes. Though, Franco stepped up with her first career goal to put the Gophers ahead.

Her first season, #17 was listed as a D, so she would also likely be in the mix if she was healthy, which of course, she isn't. It helped mitigate the infirmary situation that SCSU was a long way from full strength.

The Gophers laid waste to St Cloud with such thoroughness that anyone who looked back was turned into a pillar of salt.

As a complete outsider the only thing I know about SCSU is that their losses to the Gophers provide stunning historic parallels. When you were still Eeyore several years ago it was some devastating British Army action in North Africa that you found yourself referencing. Now it’s Lot’s wife! They must be some sorry team.

Time spent combing the comments posted on the Fan Forum are never wasted. There will be numerous bits of useful trivia proffered for your elucidation, along with many more that may be considered useless, but once offered, cannot be forgotten.

I actually think that St Cloud is a significantly better team this year. It's disappointing, given how much I dislike Brian Idalski, but they aren't bad. I agree with Steamboat that they got bad goaltending, but the Gophers were also in a mood to take no prisoners and played extremely well.

Idalski was on between periods with a taped sometime during the week interview. When asked by the college kid what he expected from the Gophers he referenced the Saint Cloud victory over Minnesota in the Hall of Fame game and then expressed the opinion that "they would get the Gophers full attention" this weekend. Well, he certainly got that right. Full attention equals take no prisoners.

Don't be fooled by the similarity in the scores they posted against each of the WCHA teams; New Hampshire is a much better team than Merrimack. The Warriors were lucky to get two goals. The Wildcats were unlucky not to score a couple more than they actually did.

I'm tired of the Abbey Murphy Show. Her antics are embarrassing. She not only whines when she doesn't get a call, you can see her whine from the stands. Her taunting of the other team is a perpetual threat to start a fight. Her presence reduces my enjoyment of Gopher Women's Hockey.

Savannah Norcross picked up her first two penalty minutes of the season. She is pretty much the anti-Murphy.

I was really shocked what a stinker she was when I watched her in Madison.

Highly skilled at both scoring and passing the puck...Such a shame that the other stuff you mention is part of her game. Wish the staff would address it in a more visible manner such as being benched or being a healthy scratch from the lineup.

Interesting to hear this perspective and put it in the context of what has been discussed with #18.

I disagree that this link and a cancer label is applicable to #18. The link seems to describe someone who has a negative attitude and isn't putting forth the effort, which then negatively impacts the team. Meanwhile, #18 isn't guilty of not trying; she just makes some bad decisions in terms of turning the feistiness dial up to 11. She's not that different in that regard from other players we've had: the recently departed #16, #13 from the days of The Streak, the Lam's, Courtney K., and Muzzy herself. I'd say that Danielle Ashley was the least disciplined Gopher, albeit for a rather brief stint. The attitude of teammates toward #18 has publicly been that they're glad she's on their team so they don't have to play against her, because doing so in practice is unpleasant enough. Do I think Frost needs to have a sit-down talk with her? Yes, because that style is a distraction to her game; can't score from the box. Given he never managed to get improvement in that regard out of #16, I'm not all that confident. As a fan, I might not like everything a player does, but if she is playing for my team, then I owe her my loyalty.

The person touches on the whining aspect which was mentioned by Still Eyeore. That is evident to see as is the opportunites taken to taunt, also mentioned by Eyeore. #18, as you mentioned, does not have an issue with effort so that doesn't apply but the other stuff certainly could.

I enjoy, for the most part, watching the Tunnelers (and no doubt about it #18 can provide some pretty nifty highlights). But when the stupid stuff happens the "loyalty" starts to slip away.

#18 played very well tonight from what I saw. I missed some of the 2nd period but from what I saw she stayed out of the box and stayed away from the other noise. More of that please...

Bemidji, down 6-0 after 2 periods, has probably gotten sick of watching the Tunnelers skate around with the puck and score some highlight reel goals. Some physical play with stick work has entered the equation.
