Re: Minnesota Gophers 2018-2019

Positives: Great start - 1st line generated some great chances. Gulstene looks solid.
Negatives: Not-so-great finish to the period. Lines two and three not yet playing to their normal level.
Questions: Has the 4th line seen any action? Will Frosty take advantage of our depth?

The 4th line has taken 4-5 shifts.

I counted three in the 2nd. Whatever, good to see them being used. It looks like the red team is starting to get a little tired. Very few "Grade A" chances against Gulstene. We're a little sloppy at times, but overall a good period for the Gophs.

I think the two offensive PP opportunities in the 2nd period limited the chances to get the 4th line out there. They certainly don't look any more vulnerable than the other lines when they are out there. Oden seems very responsible defensively for a young player, and I notice that she often gets shifts on the 3rd line late in games when protecting a lead.

Re: Minnesota Gophers 2018-2019

It was also really hard to have a transition game given the ice conditions.
Is it just me, or does it seem like having to play on poor ice is not atypical in these big games at the end of the season, especially out East?

UW is on my TV losing a BB game to a lower-seeded team wearing green; is that a sign?

The good news regarding the ice conditions: no Zamboni broke down and had to be towed off the ice. ;)

Re: Minnesota Gophers 2018-2019

I remember the ice was pretty horrible in St. Charles, but that had the excuse of a being an arena that wasn't regularly used for anything.

Re: Minnesota Gophers 2018-2019

Only if there is a three-point shot in hockey for the Badgers to miss. Otherwise...
Badgers needed a goalie; Oregon was scoring on all of their breakaways.

Seriously, this Wisconsin/Clarkson game is one that I'm really looking forward to watching as a fan. Hopefully, it isn't as boring as many Badgers/Gophers games where there is no open ice and nothing happens. I hope for a really entertaining game. Good luck to both!

I made it to one UW men's BB game this year, and it happened to be against the Gophers. Minn was bad, UW was worse. They had to repaint the rims when it was over, because of all the bricks that got thrown up, chipping the paint away. UW BB could certainly go into scoring droughts this year, and they sure did so today.

Everything is so amplified in the tourney, so if you miss a couple of shots, it is easy to start pressing.

Speaking of drougts, it could be very hard to score in the second semi as well. Two good defenses and bad ice don't make for explosiveness.
