Re: Minnesota Gophers 2018-2019

The Buchbinder goal came after Wisconsin had dominated for about six minutes. Scobee is playing really well to keep Minnesota in the game.

Re: Minnesota Gophers 2018-2019

Gophers came back strong and outshoot the Badgers 18-5 in the 3rd, but fall 4-1 with the Badgers getting an empty net goal at the end.

Excellent hockey game.

And Wisconsin's third goal came after an eight minute stretch that Minnesota completely dominated. Ignore the final score. This game was dead even.

Happy with the split. Where's Pannek? She was amazing when she roared onto the scene as an unstoppable underclassman. Now her plus/minus is tied for lowest of anyone playing in all games.

Good question, and one that if Minnesota can find an answer to, will increase their chances of having post-season success.

I'm sure even she would honestly admit that she's off to a slow start, and can play much better than what she has up to this point. IMO she's been holding on to the puck a little too long, while not moving her feet quick enough, which in turn has made it easier for the other team to defend. In her defense she's been very good defensively, helping the D in our own zone and in getting the puck out going the other way. I also think that on offense she's had some bad luck when her linemates have just barely missed on some prime scoring chances. ones that ordinarily would have given her assists.

But, any way you cut it, the first line - up to this point - has not met most Gopher fans' admittedly lofty expectations. Assuming Sarah Potomak is healthy and returns this weekend, and Frosty keeps the "pots and pan" line intact, I'm optimistic that we'll see them start to really jell and do a better job of cashing in on their scoring chances.

If they don't it may be time to try some other options.

Given Frost's comments last weekend don't expect to see Sarah back this weekend.

I think that line has gotten a lot of special attention form opponents so far this season and it is working for them. It seems at times as if the Ps are frustrated & maybe a little tight at times. Both those things (and the second my be partly due to the first) are working to hold down the scoring but the other lines are picking it up.

Huh? Friday nights game was dead even, Saturdays was not.
(Games were Saturday/Sunday)
Saturday's SOG were Minnesota 23, Wisconsin 27
Sunday's SOG were Minnesota 31, Wisconsin 29
Totals both games: Minnesota 54, Wisconsin 56
Each team won a game.

Can't get much more even than that.

Not saying both games were not competitive. A split was probably accurate as to how the weekend played out and moving forward it will be a toss up. However, Friday nights game was as even as it gets. Saturday not as much. Minnesota had 14 shots on goal through 2 1/12 periods with the play carried mostly by Wisconsin. Minnesota threw a dozen shots on goal in about a 4 minute span when the Badgers took back to back penalties. Nobody I talked to in the lobby from Minnesota felt like game 2 was a toss up. With that said I have no problem thinking the the Gophers could take to Wisconsin on another night.

Also, if shots on goal reflected how a game went, based on the passed 2 Frozen Fours Wisconsin would have back to back National Championships...instead they have to eat a little crow.

I would certainly agree that shots on goal are just a rough indicator and do not tell the whole story. I did watch both games in their entirety and thought that, taken as a whole, the teams looked pretty even. Exceptions were the 2nd and 3rd periods of Sunday's game which were dominated by the Badgers and Gophers respectively.

In any case I think the Gophers had to be pretty pleased with their split on the road against the No. 1 team in the nation.

I suspect that there is a little extrapolation involved here, as UW had zero shots on goal in the 2018 championship game. ;)

As a general rule, "That game wasn't close because one team dominated, as long as you ignore the part of the game that the other team dominated," is pretty weak analysis.

Re: Minnesota Gophers 2018-2019

Probably shouldn't be but, I am a bit concerned about tonight's game with Bemidji State. Them being a team in green and all. They always seem to play their best against Minnesota...Even when they aren't having a very good season like this year...But maybe this year they don't have good enough goaltending?
