Too bad. It was a quality thread. Sorry I missed the last few posts though. Would have loved to see what finally pushed it over the edge.

I'll bet the mods printed it out before deleting. Funny material. Bad taste, of course, but hey, that's what we do.

Back to back MacNaughton cups!

Grats to the Gophers!

Re: Minnesota Gophers 2012-2013 Part II: Mmmm, Iron City Beer!

Over the years, the MacNaughton Cup has proven to be a very difficult trophy to win. I'm extremely proud of the Gophers today for winning their share of it. I also want to congratulate the St. Cloud State Huskies for winning their share of it as well. Hopefully, the Gophers will be able to win the Herb Brooks Trophy or the Bob Johnson Trophy or the Ron Mason Trophy or the Red Berenson Trophy or what ever they choose to call it trophy in the coming years. Now let's win the Broadmore trophy for the last time and end UND's streak of 3 in a row. Very, VERY proud Gopher fan today. :)

Champs!

You'd think so. Talk about missing the forest for the trees.

Not taking anything away from the hard work put in by the Gophers this season. Both SCSU and the Gophers worked their collective ***es off to win it. In all fairness though, SCSU has never won it and given how difficult and special this trophy is, if there was a choice, I would have preferred to let SCSU celebrate it first in their locker room tonight.

But we were already in possession of the cup so... no.

SCSU should have been able to celebrate it. They did win it.

Re: Minnesota Gophers 2012-2013 Part II: Mmmm, Iron City Beer!

If you want the trophy, come take it. You could have won it last year or you could have won it this year by not blowing it.

If there would have been a three way tie with UND and SCSU, this could have gotten ugly. IMO not a classy decision at all tonight on the part of the WCHA admin.

If they wanted the cup, they should have won it outright. Period.

Re: Minnesota Gophers 2012-2013 Part II: Mmmm, Iron City Beer!

They should have brought it to Mankato and paraded it around showing the fans what their team kept UND from getting.

That's a little too parochial for my taste. IMO this is a special time to lay down this type of rhetoric. Each team worked their butts off for this and deserve fairness and equal celebration time. It's the right thing to do.

Except that we didn't win it outright either. I get that we're the defending champs and the Cup goes through us but we've won it more than a dozen times. This is SCSU's first time. I believe the Cup should have been in Madison for the Huskies to celebrate with it. All of that being said, I don't think it takes away from the very respectable and monumental accomplishment the Huskies acheived. Good job SCSU, you earned it?
