Realistically, with the new BIG conference there will only be 2 spots/teams from the conference represented in the Tourney every year. Once in awhile we might get 3 teams in, but really who are you fooling Tippsy that Sconi is anywhere close to being positioned in those 2 spots. In reality there are only 2 BIG teams capable of making the tourney every year and both come down to U of M.

I believe we see three teams making the tourney and maybe once in a while four teams. We will see.

Pretty spot on. I don't think any program is guaranteed consistent success, but if there were, UW isn't one. They don't have a dedicated rink, they don't have built-in recruiting advantages with their location, and their administration (in my opinion) doesn't seem to care a whole lot about hockey.

Yes, they are a big school with a lot of resources and a lot of past success, but past success doesn't guarantee you squat in the future and you have to use those resources for hockey for that to be a relevant factor.

Ok, I can take that. The thing is if Michigan and Minnesota are one and two before the conference tourney and Wisconsin comes up roses there is your three teams. IMO, the conference tourney will be a huge deciding factor with only six playing in it.

Very very true.... so Sconi should just plan on playing 3 game a year huh? Bet it all on winning the conference tourney every year

Aren't you guys jumping the gun a little bit assuming the BIG will get an auto bid? I mean, is there another conference in the country with only one team in the top 20 PWR?

Every conference with 6 or more teams and has a conference Tourney. That Tourney Champ gets an automatic spot in the NCAA's - Hence why it took Pedo State to form the BIG Conference. Otherwise it would of been done years ago.

Nope, though it's not a horrible idea. I don't think the B1G would be the conference I would have in mind though.

No they can't We had that happen in the last year of the CHA - BSU and Robert Morris screwed the pooch and ****ty *** Alabama Huntsville pulled 2 "gems" from deep out of their Anal region to make the NCAA'S.

Wisconsin is disappointed right now. In the future it will be even harder to get into the tournament. Maybe their expectations change in the new conference. Even setting that aside, if the BTHC is the hockey power that a lot of their school's fans think it will be, they should have no problem winning enough non-conference games to get 3 teams in per year.

If that 3rd team is right around .500 in conference (more than likely having a bad record against the top 2 teams - All TUC's) it is going to be DAM HARD to get a decent record in a 12 game NON-CON schedule to be high enough Pairwise to make the Tourney.

I agree. I think four teams is about the average for a 12 team conference, so a two team average for a 6 team conference sounds about right. There may be seasons where the Big Ten gets 3 or 4 teams in, but there will also be seasons like this one where only one team gets in. I think two teams will be about the average.

I think these teams with a some what decent history and tradition (MSU and Sconi) Truly shot themselves in the forehead (especially sconi) when they went along with the BIG idea. It will be many rough years ahead for those institutions in hockey. They may get more money, but certainly not more hardware.

At that time? The above is not correlational, it's a meta-analysis. And you came up with this off the top of your head? Wow, impressive. JFYI, in his senior year, Patterson was named to the All-WCHA First Team and received the WCHA Goaltending Champion award as the goalie with the lowest goals against average of 2.06...not too shabby. The Avalanche signed him last year to a two-year, two-way contract for $1.25 million.

I suspect the name brand and broad media exposure should attract some of the best college hockey recruits available to conference teams and soon make the BTHC one the strongest D1 conferences. With other B1G schools like Illinois, Iowa, Nebraska possibly being added over the next five years or so, the conference will help facilitate expansion of the sport in new markets as well. All good stuff. By the way, you're a wiener.
