Re: Minnesota Gophers 2012-2013 Part II: Mmmm, Iron City Beer!

What Pat seems to forget is that we are fans of the only Twin Cities team that has done anything in the last 20+ years. Are we the most pompous? Duh.

I don't care that he called us pompous. tArrogance!

I am mad that he takes pride, and encourages others to take pride, in a fanbase's sadness. As much as I hate teams like UND/WI....unless it helps the Gophers, I don't care if they win or lose. I'm not going to take a special pleasure in seeing a Whioux fan cry about a loss to SCSU or whatever.

Don't be sad, goofer fan, there's always next decade. Now watch the ego boys desert a sinking ship.

Why the negativity? You should be happy sCSu won two NCAA games in a row to reach the Frozen four. BTW, since the huskies are not a WCHA rival anymore maybe you should move on to cheering against all the small schools in your new conference.

Not surprised at all about Reusse. The stuff he blows out his *** to draw attention to his sloppy journalism is all part of his clown act.:D He's been critical of Lucia and the Gophers for years...no big deal. Using his media platform to mock Minnesota student-athletes is just another example of how classy the old man really is.

Re: Minnesota Gophers 2012-2013 Part II: Mmmm, Iron City Beer!

You know, I have been a Gopher fan from as far back as I can remember anything. I remember sitting on the floor, leaning back into the couch where my father was sitting, and on occasion my mother, watching Gopher games, watching Vikings games and watching the US Olympic Team win a Gold Medal.

When I got older, and graduated high school and left for the Army, I enjoyed checking in every chance I got to see how my Gophers did at whatever, but when they had hockey standings in the Army paper or when my parents would send me the local Star Tribune and it had hockey standings in it, I would check to see how ANY and ALL Minnesota teams did. I'd also check to see how MIAC schools did in football and hockey and other sports. I celebrated when St Thomas won a Natl Title in Baseball and when St Johns wins in football and when UMD won in football, etc.. I've NEVER hated any team from Minnesota. But I was raised up a Gopher fan. They are the only Div 1 school in my state's team. So they have always been and always will be my #1 priority. If UMn plays SCSU, I cheer for UMn. But if, like this year, UMn is out, and SCSU is still in, now I am cheering for SCSU.

But I've noticed far more SCSU and Mankato and UMD fans hate the Gophers. And FAT Pat, and I call him that because he is fat. He's a fat lazy person who thinks its clever to criticize actual athletes that he is clearly jealous of. He wreaks of jealousy. And he has a small college background so he champions each and every single little college from Minnesota that has a decent season, and I'm totally cool with that, because I am happy for those schools as well, but some people from those small schools, including FAT PAT, have a complex about it and HATE the Gophers. It's a shame.

Pat might have some good points, but the thing is, he's a JERK about it. He should be ashamed of himself, and the paper that printed his article should be ashamed of themselves as well, but he is not a nice person. He has some issues and probably needs some therapy, and if not, the alternative is worse actually. His employers are probably just ethically challenged greedy scum, so we know they'll continue to print his garbage.

FAT PAT complains if Gopher coaches don't get good recruits. FAT PAT complains if we get really good recruits and they don't win. FAT PAT complains if we DO get good recruits and they win and the teams fans are then proud of their accomplishments, calls them pompous. FAT PAT complains if Gopher fans clap and cheer for their team, FAT PAT complains if Gopher fans don't clap and cheer for their team. FAT PAT is a plain ole Gopher HATER. Probably got picked on by a sports jock growing up. Now he thinks he's getting revenge on all of those who picked on him in the past. Or something like that?

Ok, I am as disappointed as anyone, but calling this season a "waste" is a little over the top. Calling for tDon to be fired is waaaaaaaaaaaaaay over the top. I think this was probably the Gophers' best chance at a Natl Championship since probably 05-06 or maaaaaybe 06-07. Oddly enough the 05-06 was upset by the 15 seed and 06-07 was nearly beat by the 16 seed(I think....?) in the first round of the NCAAs. Does it suck? Yes. Does life go on with new recruits and a new year for 2013-2014? Of course. This team faltered down the stretch. That's all there is to say about this. As a fan I am greatly disappointed, but to say the season was a waste is pretty shallow.

All I have to say is start the countdown. I'm already looking forward to October!!

Re: Minnesota Gophers 2012-2013 Part II: Mmmm, Iron City Beer!

Hey Jan fan, why don't you focus on your team's success this year and hope they can set an all-time school record and win a second game in the tournament? I'm cheering for you guys, so don't be a tool.

And with the freshmen class coming in, I have no worries about the future of the Gopher's program.

Also...you misspelled "Gophers"

He can't focus on their success because it's never happened before and he just doesn't know what he's supposed to do. Probably trying to figure out if this year should be bigger on their participation banner because they made it farther than ever before. :D

Agreed.

It was a fun season to watch (we grabbed a MacNaughton on our way out the WCHA door :) ) I enjoyed it just like I will enjoy when October rolls around and they drop the puck again.

I suppose that your bloggers are a bit more raw than Michigan bloggers are- although some did characterize our season as a "failure" since the talent was there to at least make the NCAA tourney. The fact is, they didn't, but did play up to their capabilities in the last ten games. Still, we've been there... like 1997. Lost what, 3-4 games and got knocked out in the semis?

The Gophers were a real good team, but losing to Yale doesn't make the season a waste- not in a one game knockout scenario. Unfortunately, the seniors will have to live with it forever and may be tougher on themselves than any fanbase could be.

Reusse has always taken the "comfort the afflicted, afflict the comfortable" approach to his writing. And as Gopher hockey fans, yes, we have it pretty good.

I found it timely (and comical) that up until Saturday morning this alleged basketball guy was relegated to attempting to convince himself and anyone that would listen that Flip Saunders was a good replacement for Tubby Smith.

Is it any wonder he took a run at the hockey team?

Not a Gopher fan (but not a detractor, either) but this Reusse column really seemed to cross a line as far as being a professional journalist. Taking whacks at overpaid pros is one thing, but taking these shots at college kids is low. I find it hard to revel in the failure of college kids. That you're positioning Yale kids as hardscrabble, beat-the-odds underdogs is also a bit odd. Anyway, just my 2 cents worth as an outsider.

I agree, Yale is not Holy Cross, to try and make that connection is laughable, Yale made the frozen four and is a good squad.

Obviously Reusse doesn't know hockey, he knows donuts.

I would call this season a waste. It sounds harsh, but I'd point out that calling it a waste is not the same as saying it was worthless or without any redeeming quality. They won a share of the MacNaughton and that is something they should be proud of. The season wasn't a waste simply because they lost in the first round to Yale (they seem to be a quality team). It was a waste because they set themselves up for it by lacking consistent intensity for months leading up the postseason. The result on Friday wasn't shocking (how it happened definitely was), that is the problem.

With the talent Minn had, it seems like they underachieved with the expectations anything short of a NC. It's not how it works, though. I watched a team float for four months until something happened and then all of a sudden they were one of the hottest teams in the NCAA. Those are dangerous teams if they can make the Dance.
