As someone who was a collegiate athlete for four years, I can attest to how important leadership is on a team. If you lack the seniors to step up and be a leader, often the juniors will take that role. On my team we had years where we had awesome, motivating captains (plural) and other teammates who made our whole team better, not just as a whole, but individually as well. Then we had years where our captains didn't care as much and you could tell how much of a difference that would make. Those years our team was much more divided and generally only cared about their own accomplishments, this driving down the overall team's success.

My point: great leadership can mean all the difference in team success.
