Gopher puck is looking pretty good right now. Mens and womens teams so far this year are a collective 46 goals for and 2 against.

Fasching looked very good against UND last night. Very good.

3 pts for Hudson

Re: Minnesota Gophers 2012-2013: From Dinkytown to Steel City!

Was only able to watch one period last night, but it was the fun one. Wow!

Can't wait to go to tonight's game and anxious to see lineup changes tDon has. Listening to Wooger in the pregame it sounds like Wilcox is a wandering goalie who likes to play/pass the puck, which always makes me nervous. I've always believed goalies should let the hockey players handle the puck, maybe Wilcox can change my mind. :)

Yeah Lucia mentioned he was going to try and get everyone in this weekend, so I would think we will see Holl Ryan Reilly Horn and J Larson tonight. We'll see I guess. Not sure how you get all of them in.

If Holl is in who do you sit on D tonight? Or does Holl go play 4th line forward with Serratore and Ryan Reilly (Horn) and J Larson sits again?

I agree, best forward last night for the U-18's besides Frankie Vatrano. Big, fast, strong, quick decisions as well.

Stauber didn't?

Re: Minnesota Gophers 2012-2013: From Dinkytown to Steel City!

At the Blueline Line Club meeting yesterday Assistant Coach Grant Potulny said that Wilcox is a tremendous puck handler and skater, so assuming Potulny's assessment is accurate, I wouldn't be too concerned. In fact, if he's as skilled as described it should help the Gophers break the puck out of the zone.

Re: Minnesota Gophers 2012-2013: From Dinkytown to Steel City!

I would keep the first 3 lines the same tonight, then put in Serratore Ryan Reilly and Parenteau as 4th liners. Keep the D pairings the same.

Re: Minnesota Gophers 2012-2013: From Dinkytown to Steel City!

I don't think anyone expected to see Parenteau as the guy to move up to forward, but he looked good there last night. Threw some big hits, had a couple good opportunities...

I like the idea of keeping the kid in the line-up somehow. He seems to have a great "team-first" attitude and has already shown he is willing to do the small things and the unglamorous dirty work. He could make a nice impact on that 4th line.

I'm expecting to see a closer game tonight. I doubt MSU is going to allow the Gophers to jump out to a 3 goal lead by the 15 minute mark again.

Re: Minnesota Gophers 2012-2013: From Dinkytown to Steel City!

Why?

Stauber was awesome handling the puck.

Goalies need to let the hockey players handle the puck. :)

That being said, Wilcox was solid and did a nice job, he only got caught in no-man's-land with the puck once.
He has really quick hands. Nice to see.

Instead it was something like the five minute mark.

This game was actually on TV here in Canada (NHL lockout means we are desperate for hockey):D

Look forward to watching this team in the Frozen Four.

Re: Minnesota Gophers 2012-2013: From Dinkytown to Steel City!

I remember McLeod commenting that people in Vancouver could see the game. Pretty crazy, and cool.

Re: Minnesota Gophers 2012-2013: From Dinkytown to Steel City!

It's early in this season, but the scary thing for us non-gopher fans is that everyone knew the kind of play the gophs showed this weekend was possible, and last year proved that this group has a competitive heart. Combine big time talent with a competitive, never quit spirit and you have a team that is going to kick a lot of arse. Sooner or later, you will need a little luck in the NCAAs, of course, but this could be a team to remember, regardless how that goes.

Unfortunately for you guys, there's another team out there that is even better (they clobbered the U18s by two goals!), so be prepared to have your hearts ripped out.
