Minnesota Gopher 2012 offseason thread

Re: Minnesota Gopher 2012 offseason thread

With what we did last year, and the talent we have returning, I'll be disappointed if we don't return to the Frozen Four. I would probably stop short of calling the season a complete failure though. Any season we compete for a conference championship and make it to the Final Five and the Tourney is a success.

Re: Minnesota Gopher 2012 offseason thread

Good question Harley.

I think for me (as of Aug 30th, subject to change) :) it would be top 2 WCHA finish, playing in a F5 championship game and returning to the Frozen Four.

What do others view as a success this year as of now anyway?

That sounds about right. Normal expectations are home ice, and a Final Five and NCAA berth. This year is different and should demand more. I noticed you refrained from demanding a banner. I think I'd be bummed if they didn't hang at least one like last year. Hockey's weird though and you don't always get what you want.

What's the chatter up there about the outdoor game at Soldier Field.

Does it seem like a lot of Gopher fans will be making the trek?

Re: Minnesota Gopher 2012 offseason thread

This.

If a guy has a 5 GAA, but faces 200 shots a game (yes, I'm going extreme!), sign him immediately. ;)

From an inferential statistical perspective both GAA and SV% are essentially of the same statistical value with very similar covariant confounds, DVs, IVs, correlation coefficients, etc. Yet the funny thing is they both lack construct validity in determining a goalie's true skill and performance level from a strictly inferential perspective because of the manner in which these concepts been historically formulated.

I can prove it, but not on this forum for God's sake (*everyone claps*

I would disagree with this. If a goalie faces twice as many shots, and better quality of shots, because of poor defensive play, he's going to have a higher GAA than a goalie who sees lesser number and quality of shots. Neither stat is perfect, but save percentage is much better than GAA, which is much more a team stat than a goalie stat IMO.

Not trying to start an argument, but I couldn't disagree more.

It's ok, you're free to disagree. But you're obviously not getting my point. But sorry this is the end of the line on this subject. I'm not about to play hardball multivariate theory on USCHO and bore everyone to tears. But like I said I can prove what I stated and prove you dead wrong with p < .05 and significant construct, internal and external validity.

No, I get your point. I just don't agree at all. It's common sense IMO. But I agree, it's not worth getting in a fight over, so I'll drop it.

No, sorry this is not common sense at all, and that in a sense captures my quintessential point.:)

JDubbs and FS23 fight was way more entertaining than this one.

They kinda released the ticket prices($65-$75/ticket) and that has been a major buzzkill over on GPL. I think there will be quite a few Gopher fans there but it's hard to say. I don't think that is thaaaaaat huge of a price to pay for two games outdoors. It will be worth it to me because this is the first ever outdoor game for the Gophers and I want to see it live.

It also helps that I have a free place to stay. :D
