I agree too. But there is also something to having a physical component to one's game.
On a different not, as for those saying recruiting is an issue, I heard an interview on ESPN radio today that I thought supports my argument that it is too difficult when getting commitments from sophmores in High School to predict how well they will develop. They were interviewing a Packer linebacker (? - I am blanking on his name.) His Dad played for the Browns and coached him in HS. His Junior year, he didn't even start on the HS team. He had to walk-on in college and play himself into a spot. By the time he left college he was a first round draft pick. That is why, #1 - I say Lucia can't be blamed completely for under-performing kids, given how differently they develop and how early choices are made on players -2 - why a coach should take the player he thinks will be most talented (as opposed to people who talk about taking grinders/position players- who, if they don't reach their potential, won't even make the team). If all the players were playing to the level that they were projected to be at this point, it would be a pretty special team and there wouldn't be many people calling for a change in recruiting strategy. Now there may be some merit to the comments saying Lucia lost some of his ability to motivate, but his history at CC and MN makes me think players are responsible too.
