Re: Minnesota Golden Gopher Women's Hockey 2013-14 Season

Thanks Gophers. You've treated me to a boatload of great memories over the years, and the run over the past months contained many of them. I appreciate the way that you battled to the end both last week and this and never quit, even when things weren't coming easy. It took a super effort by a very good team to beat you.

Are you done?

if you mean done using facts to make a point
no

hope the NoDak fans who made the drive from GF have a safe and pleasant journey
... obviously some of them only took a 45 minute drive from the TC 'burbs
maybe spend a little money and actually go to the Ralph and support your team ;)

Just watched the post game presser video with coach Frost. I've never seen that many microphones and video devices in his face before. Apparently many have been awaiting this opportunity with well rehearsed questions.

Have been nice to follow road to this loss during 2013-2014. So much hype which is good for GWH. For me now 81 days and counting. And as a usual
Finns were on ice when something special happened.

Our magical mystery tour might be over, but it will never be forgotten. Our Gophers took us on the trip of a lifetime. Hats off to this wonderful wonderful team.

As Coach Frost said after the game:

“Our team made history,” a teary-eyed Frost said. “For everyone that has been a part of it, it’s been a real special thing. I think they helped grow the game of women’s hockey here in Minnesota and nationwide, and that’s a huge testament to them.”

Indeed. It was a magical mystery tour. And although Yesterday was sad, Today has me thinking about our Gophers having an extra strong showing in the coming Tomorrows against those eastern Bulldogs. Sorry Walker, it was my roommates idea for the Beatle's reference. See you at the next game.

Serious congrats to the Minnesota women's program for an amazing feat. One of the more remarkable records in sports these days.

And it's not easy for a Nodak to be nice like this.

Kudos to coach Frost and his team. An unbelievable streak that was great for Women's Hockey, Minnesota hockey, etc. Still thinking of the game against the Huskies last week--the Gophs are down a goal late in the game, but found a way to win with poise and skill. VERY impressive! Sounds like a class act from the coach and the players. Congrats on a phenomenal run.

Fire Frost. The game has changed, and he has clearly been unable to keep up.

yes, and bring in the grief counselors, the Gophers were absolutely devastated by the loss, it'll be a miracle if they even return to the ice, and fans return to watch another game

Re: Minnesota Golden Gopher Women's Hockey 2013-14 Season

… the Gophers were absolutely devastated by the loss ...
In seriousness, while obviously not devastated, the Gophers did take it pretty hard compared to any other regular-season loss that leaves a team in first place. It was a pretty neat thing for them to experience, a little like being on a long, once-in-a-lifetime vacation, and now it is over and they have to return to work. The emotion is likely sadness that it is over, but still a realization of how special it was and knowledge of all the memories made.

… it'll be a miracle if they even return to the ice, and fans return to watch another game
The big miracle will be if the local media returns to cover them.

Aye. Probably dropped like a hot potato for the most part, would be my guess. I think the more unfortunate aspect of the end in a bigger picture sense.

I'm a Pioneer Press guy as opposed to a Strib reader. Like to see GWH get a column(s) or feature yet this season going forward.

Sansevere...Brothers. Haven't heard from Bruce in awhile.

Re: Minnesota Golden Gopher Women's Hockey 2013-14 Season

Have you noticed that teams that play the Gophers close have been rising in the polls? Just the opposite reaction that was occurring early last year at this same time when everyone thought the team had lost too much from the previous year to be much good, so if you lost to them you must really be bad.

Also, I want to give a tip of the hat to play by play guy for making the broadcasts so enjoyable. I even go back after the home games and listen to the highlights. I saw a few recent complimentary comments from around the hockey world from fans listening to their first gopher game, so I know I'm not the only one who appreciates his work.
