OK, I see what's going on with attendance, only those fans entering with a ticket are counted, students and others who get in with an ID card are not counted
attendance today was just under 2000, but it looked like more people than attended the WI games

and thank you NoDak fans for coming to Ridder, now if you can just support your team in Grand Forks like you did yesterdat
only about 1000 show up in Grand Forks

Only 1,000?

Re: Minnesota Golden Gopher Women's Hockey 2013-14 Season

The crowd's attentiveness is especially impressive considering that there was no band. I know the band had a good excuse, but . . .

Imagine that many people that excited about the game and then add the Gopher pep band.

Not doubting what you're saying, but what was the reason for no band? I went to men's game later on, and they had an alumni band. About half the size as normal, but way better than no band.

P.S. When the band is in attendance - like they usually are - I wish they would do the walk around the concourse, playing the rouser etc. before the game starts, just like they do for the men's. There is always a large group of supporters following, really getting into it, and it makes for an exciting atmosphere before the puck drops...

Reminder to PPC members that today is the first of the season's three Chalk Talks. Here is the event schedule.

Don't know what the crowds are like lately at the Ralph but 1,000 would have been fantastic when I was there in the past. There were about 400, and that was for a Gopher game too!

Am I on another planet? Last year UND was #4 nationally in attendance at 1,200 a game. The year before that was 1,400 a game. Whens the last time you been to GF?

Re: Minnesota Golden Gopher Women's Hockey 2013-14 Season

I thought it was a great crowd. I agree that the number of people in the building seemed to be more like the crowds that in the past have been announced as sell outs. It just didn't feel like 1,400 below capacity.

it appears to me that a significant number of people with season tickets do not show up
the middle sections always have some empty seats despite the fact they are showing as sold

and 2435 for Sunday's game? it appeared to be more than the WI game that reported 2700
but as I said, the attendance only counts tickets that are presented
U of MN students get in free with their ID card and are not counted
in fact everyone who enters without presenting a ticket is not counted (or so I was told by one of the people working there)
so attendance does not reflect the actual number of people who were there

I went to Amsoil arena earlier this year
the first night I ordered one student ticket (a U of MN student is a U of MN student right?) and paid $6 for a reserved seat, it was an older woman who sold it, I was wearing a Gopher shirt
the next night when I ordered a student ticket I was given a free general admission ticket, it was a young guy, who looked like a student that sold it, I had my jacket zipped up, I have no idea if that made any difference
????????????

Re: Minnesota Golden Gopher Women's Hockey 2013-14 Season

Twelve bad minutes and a much different North Dakota team was the difference. Eventually giving up first period leads is going to do you in and that's what happened. Taken as a whole I thought it was a very evenly played game but that's because the comeback effort was ferocious. The first fifteen minutes of the second period and the middle ten minutes of the third were all Gophers and they had some chances even late in the first, including one that popped in the air, hit the crossbar on the way down and almost bounced into the net before Lexie Shaw could smother it.

On the whole the bounces favored North Dakota. There were certainly games during the streak when the Gophers won because the bounces went their way, so that's meant as a factual statement rather than any sort of excuse. Sometimes that's what happens and it's been a long time since it happened to this team.

It was a fun 21 months. Hopefully the next four and a half will be, too.

No kidding. Times have changed in Grand Forks. We're about 3rd-4th nationally in attendance for women's hockey the last I checked.

I've personally witnessed games in Grand Forks that were more in the 3,000 range for attendance.
