Minnesota Golden Gopher Women's Hockey 2013-14 Season

Re: Minnesota Golden Gopher Women's Hockey 2013-14 Season

The problem is finding a unanimous No. 1 on the men's side, something that doesn't happen all that often..

I don't see where one can access historical USA Today hockey polls, but it may not matter. The Gopher men have been NCAA champions a total of five times, but just twice since hockey became a D1 sport for women. In those two years they were never the unanimous No. 1 pick in the last USCHO poll of that season or the first USCHO poll to start the following season:

2001/02
Final USCHO Poll (3/18/02) – ranked 3rd
First USCHO poll (9/30/02) to start the 2002/03 season – ranked 1st but not unanimous

2002/03
Final USCHO Poll (3/25/03) – ranked 4th
First USCHO Poll (9/29/03) to start the 2003/04 season – ranked 1st but not unanimous

Still, my guess is that there is another case out there, but I'm not going to spend any more time hunting for it right now.

Me neither, but my guess is that there is NOT another case out there! ;)

:o

I apologize. I admit I don't follow this thread as closely as I should yet I can't imagine how I missed the previous notice, even though it was less than detailed. ;)

No doubt the post you quoted was a bit of of a teaser but credit goes to D2D for giving a link a couple of posts later which made it clear who brookyone was referring to.

Yep. Again, no names mentioned. Without following the link one wouldn't even know what was being discussed. I sure messed up big time when I missed that series of posts. You sure caught me this time. :o

:p

Re: Minnesota Golden Gopher Women's Hockey 2013-14 Season

I'll take the blame for the excessively vague nature of the original post referencing Ms. Soccer for class A. I didn't give proper consideration to thread traffic and scope of potential thread interest outside of my own GWH fan acquaintances. My fault entirely. :o Those GWH acquaintances and I have had fairly extensive conversations regarding KP...including discussion of her considerable soccer skills. One of those friends is a dedicated BSM fan, thus I figured the vague reference would be obvious to those folks.

I just read that BSM and Blake will meet in the MSHSL soccer class A title game. I'd like to see Miss Pannek and teammates win a championship. Nothing against Blake of course. ;) Another class A powerhouse having made nice contributions to the GWH program.

3rd consecutive title match between the two...and a rubber match.

There is nothing wrong with what you did. I just missed the whole sequence and tried to add some info about a Gopher recruit. FiveHoleFrenzy appears to have a stick up his butt about me for some reason and took me to task for posting late after someone else had already posted about it. Sorry to drag anyone else through it.

My kid is a BSM soph, was at the dome yesterday and will go again Thursday to hopefully see another Red Knight title.

I admit you have dinged me in the past for my posting errors so I was curious to see how a critic would respond to some criticism coming there way. Not the wisest choice on my part so I apologize to you and the others as well, as it takes away from what is good about this forum and, in particular, this thread.

Re: Minnesota Golden Gopher Women's Hockey 2013-14 Season

I read in the St Paul paper today, "The Gophers women have a home-and-home series this weekend against Minnesota State Mankato. Friday's game starts at 7 p.m. at Mariucci Arena." I don't think so, unless, as Timothy Fenwick Jr. once questioned, "there's something going on that we don't know about?"

My guess is that one of their interns and/or someone who has never seen a GWH home game in the past decade wrote that.

The game on Friday is at Ridder.

Re: Minnesota Golden Gopher Women's Hockey 2013-14 Season

Maybe the current St Paul reporter who had the Gophers playing at Mariucci this Friday night had the same dream that I did last night. I woke up this morning thinking about former fellow Iron Ranger Andrea Nichols scoring the game winning overtime goal in a 4-3 Gopher game with Mankato at Mariucci Arena on 2/4/06. That game, as per then St Paul reporter, was "moved from Ridder to Mariucci as the promotional wheels attempt to crank out an impressive turnstile count." It worked, since a season high 2381 attended. Both games with Mankato were televised and Doug Woog kidded Ashley Albrecht about her amazing breakaway goal the night before in a 2-1 overtime win at Ridder. Let's see, two games with Mankato, both games broadcast, an Olympic year. No, it was only a dream that it possibly could be happening again.

The actual reason for the move to Mariucci was to facilitate the booster club's silent auction; there is a lot more room on the concourse than there is at Ridder. In recent years, that auction has instead been held over two days.

Re: Minnesota Golden Gopher Women's Hockey 2013-14 Season

That's completely embarrassing.
Well, perhaps not for Blake and BSM?

I actually find soccer tough to watch so I don't know how challenged BSM and Blake have been in tournament preliminary rounds.

Maybe time for them to play up as BSM does in hockey.

ETA: BSM wins 1-0. Really time for them to move up to 2A like they do in hockey.

Not the Zamboni drivers' fault at all, but I wish they would FIRST resurface the ice - to let it thoroughly harden - BEFORE any "fun" between-period activities are held. When such activities are held they typically wait until AFTER they're concluded before resurfacing. This approach typically leaves various parts of the rink "unfrozen" - as in pools of water! - which, when the officials drop the puck, has the potential of a fluke goal being scored, and potentially changing the outcome of the game....which in my mind is totally unnecessary and easily preventable.

Again, not the Zamboni's drivers' fault at all - just a matter of when they are told to resurface - which should be immediately after the conclusion of each period.

Until you've seen a "fill the bucket with snow from a snowblower" contest and the construction of a snowbank at center ice as featured at the old DECC, you haven't seen messed up resurfacing between periods. :(

OMG, that almost sounds intentional, like someone's trying to gain some kind of a psychological advantage. ;)

Although I was impressed with Penn State and Pegula last weekend, I was really surprised at the condition of the ice after resurfacing. Way too much water at the ends, and in fact, there was a delay between periods on Sunday to allow more time for the ice to set. Could be novice operators using too much water, or overall warmth, but they should get that figured out.
