I was mainly interested in who was skating with who, but with so many changes I just started watching the freshmen to see how they did, I was wondering about that since I never saw her.

Was it just me or did Terry impress anybody else. With her speed she has always been fun to watch, last night I arrived half way thru the second period to see her skating up the right side, I thought for sure the defender had her well covered (and likely so did the defender and probably everyone else) but apparently Kelly didn't, rather than pass she downshifted and just blew by everyone and scored. She did it again later (although no score). I guess I actually have it backward, it was the second one she scored on in the third period.

That was in the third. Apparently she skates faster going south because she had one in the first, too, that she didn't score on.

Megan Wolfe at D and Kelsey Cline up front are things I probably wouldn't have anticipated personally. Heard Brooke Garzone may also get looks at D...can't recall if she did vs. Team Japan.

She did, as did Cline. Schipper was also essentially a D on at least one PP. I imagine there will be flux tonight as well until they settle on a primary six.

He did say that all the skaters but Brausen got to shoot in one of the shootouts over the two nights. I'm thinking it may be time to see what kind of moves the backup goalies have. If a player doesn't have a bread-and-butter shootout move, then it may be best to just skate down and shoot low blocker and hope the goalie misses it. At least make the goalie make a save.

surprised me as well, Garzone did play D both nights and looks to be the 4th line center, in addition to getting some time on the penalty kill unit

I was a bit surprised to see Leveille back in goal Friday night but I suppose with Wisconsin coming up so quickly there really isn’t extra time to give the other goalies a start. Every goalie handles the puck a little differently and the team needs as much time with her in net as possible so they are ready for Wisconsin. But I’m still going to be a little surprised if Leveille plays both games against Colgate. Sletta did play the final period and although she only faced one shot that’s deceiving, the pucks just weren’t on net or failed to make it there. Both goalies have yet to be scored on across 3 seasons, I wonder how long that can last? The shootout goal that Leveille finally gave up barely made it across the line, it must have taken about 10-12 attempts or more to finally get one in.

It looks like Brandt, Terry, and Davis will continue at center, but if this weekend is any indication there will be some new pairings. Bona skated with Brandt both nights, Brausen with Terry, and Menefee with Davis. All three were effective and it seems like better balance than last year. The 3rd member of each line changed from Thursday to Friday. Schipper was with Davis on Thursday, but Brandt on Friday. Cameranesi was with Brandt on Thursday, then Terry on Friday. Lorence skated with Davis on Friday and I think it was with Terry (but I thought I saw her with Brandt & Bona as well). The first thing to go is memory, right?

In any event it looks like Cameranesi and Schipper have nailed down the two open spots at forward. Schipper scored a seemingly effortless goal in the shootout against Japan, then followed it up with 2 against UBC plus another that was waved off. Of the freshmen, she looked the least fazed by her first college game. Cameranesi looked to me like she amped up the intensity and physical play Friday, maybe she was still PO’d about Thursday. On Thursday Bona did a nice spin move to get a pass to Brandt on the left side in front of the net who then passed thru 2 defenders ( I swear it was backwards between her legs) across the front of the goal to Cameranesi (who was likely expecting Brandt to shoot) on the other side who was as surprised as the defenders by the pass. I suspect Dani put a Post It Note in her helmet to always be ready for anything when Brandt has the puck. Despite that, watching her it’s obvious why everyone is so high on her.

Although Burns played a little at forward Thursday, I didn’t see her there Friday. It appears to me she has nailed down one of the spots at D and will be paired with McMillen, which makes for a pretty potent pair.

Perhaps the biggest difference from last year will be the power play despite the fact Brandt, McMillan, & Menefee return. Obviously Kessel was a scoring machine and had a lot of speed, Terry, Bona, & Cameranesi have speed and are snipers, but the big difference is the loss of Bozek’s (& Jaluso’s) cannon.

Regarding the significance of no Boz or Mira cannon on the PP...yes, very true I'd say. I think Ramsey and McMillen have the shots to bring that weapon to the PP. On this first weekend though it seemed quite a few of those shots were well off the mark, both on the PP and at even strength.

McMillen did a bit better in that regard, putting five shots on net in each exhibition. Her biggest problem to my eyes is that a number of her misses go over the top of the net, giving no possibility for tips. Ramsey has missed the target quite regularly through her first two years, and the puck sounds impressive hitting the boards, but I'd prefer the softer impact against twine. I've wondered if she might be better served to opt for a wrist shot as Schleper often did, because she has a good one.

I lost track of how many times I yelled either "hit the net!" or "keep it down" this past weekend. :rolleyes: To her credit Milica did put several low wrist shots on net that could have easily been tipped. And as I recall one of them hit the leg of a defender and went in.

Having been paired with Bozek it is easy to forget that Gillanders was a high scoring defender before coming to MN, against Japan I thought to myself: "maybe not the hardest shot, but she is getting it on net" I thought for sure she scored a goal against UBC, the box score shows it, but the recap doesn't mention it

it looks like there is a box score posted after all, seems to be some mistakes in what I posted about line pairings, but I think there was a little bit of changing throughout the game, I'm pretty sure I saw Menefee with Davis and Cameranesi with Terry, and it just wasn't between line changes, and there seemed to be some changing going on at the blueline

it seemed to me that with the lines I saw it would be tough for the other team to focus on any one, very well balanced

it looks like somebody at the WCHA website made a mistake and posted a headline twice about the UBC game and none about the Japan game

It's not clear to me whether or not there is a fee. I guess I'll find out in a couple of days.

I understand that Dan is not traveling to NY, so the only other options would be live stats or a blog.
