Yes having the band there definitely changes the atmosphere in the building, for the better!

Rumor has it that a new appellation may be found at Ridder Arena identifying said location as the Home of Gopher Women's Hockey 5 Time National Champions. Although "The Eye" has not seen it in person, the source is extremely Rileyable. Take that Cheese Heads!! Sorry about that. I think a former sport's reporter for the Pioneer Press may have taken over my keyboard for a minute there.

I know it's very early and the stats don't mean a heck of lot yet, but I never would have guessed that the Gophers would be tied for the league's best defense (at 1.25 goals a game) while UMD would be leading in offense (at 4.75 goals a game). Will be interesting to see if the Gophers can limit Duluth's goal production while being able to score a few more themselves. They'll need to play their best from the opening faceoff as the odds of again coming from behind away from home are not so good.

Re: Minnesota Golden Gopher Women's Hockey 2013-14 Season

I'm at the Old Chicago in Canal Park getting ready.
I was late getting out of the metro...always seems to go that way when heading to Duluth, St. Cloud or Mankato, so I didn't get into the rink until warmups had started.

Good to see #3 suited up and on the ice for the pre-game. Curious to read what the experts thought. I thought that was a pretty solid 60 minutes and the Gophers had the edge all night. Quicker and crisper. Good forecheck and backcheck. Passing and creativity making for a number of great chances that just missed...coulda had a few more. Getting more impressed with the young blue liners too. Showing some early aptitude and poise IMO.

When I see a couple of my GWH fan buddies face to face next time I'll be required to eat some crow per earlier observations made. She's ripping some quality shots with some sizzle last couple outings.

That was a nasty fall by the official. Looked painful. Hope the injury isn't serious. Looked like a potential bone breaker.

Twelve bucks general admission...okay. Ah...still a bargain.

$12 eh? Harvard fleecers of the midwest. Hope they didn't hit ya for parking too.

Parking was five bucks.
Only if you parked in the arena lot or ramp. In this case, I did, because I couldn't find a spot in the Canal Park lots. The state teachers' conference was in Duluth on Thursday and Friday, so hotel rooms and municipal lot parking spots are at a premium.

Four different players found the net and junior wing Meghan Lorence was the only player with a multi-point game, assisting on the first goal and scoring the second for the Gophers (5-0-0, 3-0-0-0 WCHA).

“I think tonight was probably her best game as a Gopher, quite frankly,” Frost said.

I am unable to disagree with this opinion.

Let's Go Gophers!

Gophers have the puck...Menefee walks in and scores with an apparent delayed call on Bulldog McParland. Goal disallowed. Curious to hear that explanation.

Just to follow-up on this thought... It was the judgment call of the ref that UMD controlled the puck long enough for the penalty to be called before Menefee scored. It's not reviewable. :( But in the overall scheme of things, it did not affect the outcome of the game.

Re: Minnesota Golden Gopher Women's Hockey 2013-14 Season

Anyone else think the apparently still official scoring on the first Gopher goal Saturday is wrong?

The box score has Davis with the goal, assists to Cline and Terry.

First, extremely unlikely that Davis and Terry were both on the ice at the same time in an early game even strength situation.

Second, the box gives Cline an assist but lists Gophers on the ice as Davis, Brausen, Lorence, the usual Davis centered line and as apparent D, Burns and Terry? The box gives an assist to Cline while not listing her as on the ice for the goal.

I think the numbers in the box score are wrong, probably not 17 and 10 on the ice, much more likely 27 and 11.

I suspect the real scoring sequence was Davis from Cline and Lorence.

Any injury news?
