I agree. The player was not only in the crease, she appeared to bump Leveille as well.

Had to step away for a little while as I was so disappointed. But thinking about it some there has been so little of this disappointment the last three years that I am really grateful to have witnessed this group of players and what they have accomplished. I'll echo what others have said about the seniors. They have been so fun to watch and they will be missed.

Congratulations on a phenomenal three year run. Obviously the title streak -- for both your team and our league -- was going to end sometime; but it was a shame it had to be today.

I do give Clarkson a ton of credit. They played with a desperation that proved to be very effective.

Yes that 5th goal was the nail but I thought another big key to the game was when the Gophers didn't do anything with two successive power plays at the end of the second period.

The Clarkson PK at the end of the second was just unreal. We were sitting in row 1, up from the Minnesota benches and next to the faceoff circle in what was the Clarkson end for the second period, and watched the puck fly from the Clarkson D zone up the ice to the Minnesota end over and over again. It's the PK team who are meant to be getting tired out on the power play, not the power play team! Great job by Clarkson and, as you say, it went a long way to winning them the game; they must have gone into the locker room with incredible self-belief at the end of that period.

I agree. As the 2nd period moved along, I thought they slowly lost the advantage they seemed to have. Needed to get out of the 2nd ahead, and Clarkson prevented that.

Minnesota were clearly the better team for the first seventeen minutes of the first period, and for the first quarter or so of the second. Other than that I was surprised to see Clarkson playing them level. It wasn't even the defend-then-explode approach that we saw in the BC game (which is the only other Clarkson game I've been this season); they were all over the ice. Even when they were down, the Gophers seemed the more skilled team: patient without being hesitant and more on point with their passing. But Clarkson were all over the ice when it mattered.

I was seated behind that net, and do not agree. IMHO, it was a clean play.

Never mind:( I was just looking at the video highlights on the Clarkson thread, and JLR does look like she had one foot planted in the crease on Nisbet's goal. The goal before, MacAuley was pushed into the crease, and it also looks to be after the puck entered.

Having seen Clarkson live a couple of times this season, and on video a few others, I expected to see the kind of game we got yesterday. Clarkson is deceptively fast, and support the puck very well - extremely well. They aren't thrown off if a pass isn't perfect, if they mishandle the puck, or misfire. They take what they have and make something of it. Because their style is so different than Minny, I knew the game would be interesting regardless of the outcome.

Minnesota played a good game, but at times, looked frustrated to be meeting so much resistance, especially in the neutral zone, which they typically own outright.

I understand Gopher fans don't think so, at least yet, but that was a great hockey game from my point of view. Congratulations to both, and to Minny's seniors on a stellar body of work.

I know this is the Minnesota thread but I think it's a little too much bias. You're right Minnesota had control for a good portion of the first... But from then on the only time Minnesota was in control of that game was when they were on the pp, which in my opinion was called a little one sided and kept that game closer than it should have been. Clarkson was hands down the better team on the 5 on 5 for the majority of that game.

Minnesota finally had to play against a team that can actually put pressure on them defensively at both ends of the ice. They completely shut down Minnesota's play style of strong control in the neutral zone through the transition, and Minnesota just didn't know how to handle it.

Though I will say, Minnesota is basically guaranteed to win it next year. With Brandt in her senior year, the return of Kessel, and Leveille having now experienced the pressure of a National Chapionship. She had big shoes to fill, replacing Raty.

Brandt will be a junior.

You may want to reread comments in this thread, they seem to give a lot of credit to Clarkson, though not as much as your hubris.

wwhyte is a BC poster.

Clarkson defense against Minnesota? They were pretty good at obstruction, hooking, and holding which Minnesota saw a lot of this year. Minnesota made a number of mistakes that frankly, they had some issues with this year. That comes from the loss of three very good defensemen in Bozek, Jalosuo, and Stecklein from last year. I know this was a concern for many Gopher fans (myself included) coming into this season.

Strongly disagree that Clarkson was "hands downs the better team on 5 on 5 for the majority of the game". I would agree that Howe > Leveille however.

Funny, because I thought the majority of the holding came from the Gophers and was not called. The calls made against Clarkson I really have no complaint about, except the body checking call on Rattray, which was bogus. I really didn't see much obstruction or hooking from either team. I thought the officiating was Minnesota biased and the line work was horrible for both teams.

As far as who had the better of play, I'd say it was a toss-up. Minnesota clearly controlled the first period. I thought the second was pretty even with each team doing what it does well. Clarkson was tenacious on the forecheck and Minnesota was great at creating chances with skill plays. The third period, I thought, leaned more toward Clarkson, mainly because, as you mentioned, Minnesota made mistakes. I would say that the mistakes were due, in part, to Clarkson's pressure.

Olympic loss + National loss + $20 bet = Brooky one hat trick. ;) Good luck next year. :)
