Glad to see Miss Garzone get her first collegiate goal. I thought it looked like a very nice deflection of a shot from Gillanders...the UND crew gave it to Gillanders at the time...I now see it's Garzone's in the CHS box score. Good for her!

After a bit of a slow start I was beginning to notice how Brook Garzone had really picked up her play as of late. Happy too that all her hard work was rewarded by scoring a big goal in a big game.

It's worth noting that the players thought it was Gillanders' goal, too.

I thought he was equally horrid. Some of those calls on jlam were weak penalties. Letting Minnesota change players after they iced it.
There were a couple penalties I thought I was watching a high school game. If that's how slashing is going to be called for the season, we may see some record penalty numbers. Much like football, you could call slashing at least once every shift.

The Gophers got the puck immediately, which they do only for a first career goal. There was much discussion and review of the video by the official stats people yesterday, but it was inconclusive on replay. Garzone's stick was right there, but it was almost impossible to tell if the puck grazed it on the way by or not. The official position of Minnesota was that they believe it to be Garzone's goal, as they have an angle from their own taping.

On a little lighter note ... I have watched both the women and the men play this season, and I have observed that the men seem to spend considerably more time getting their hair to look nice for the pre-game lineups than the women. ;)

If we ever got a TV network to televise all of the women's games, I doubt you'd see much difference! ;)

A couple of the Saturday goals (and the first goal Sunday) look a little soft.
I'd agree on Saturday. The first on Sunday was much like her first goal in the NCAA championship. It is hard for the goalie to cover everything when her team lets the player walk out front, because the goalie is forced to move on the play. Rigsby didn't fare any better.

Was Mira shooting or looking for Kessel all the way? As I watched live and in the highlights I thought she saw #8 all the way and made a beauty of an assist. Maybe only Mira would know for sure. I'd be interested in her thoughts on that goal.

She definitely took a look before she made the shot/pass.

The passing has been phenomenal this year. A Colgate mom sitting near me couldn't believe the accuracy and vision she was seeing from the Gophers, especially the first weekend of the year.

Fundamentals of the game.Move the puck and your feet.

I agree; with the exception of the first period on Saturday in Grand Forks, it has been a strength.

Re: Minnesota Golden Gopher Women's Hockey 2012-2013

I winced when I read this excerpt from Candace: "...Minnesota-Duluth is a mercurial team that, though struggling, I think is capable of beating any squad in the country except Minnesota." I would bet big bucks that the Gopher team and coaches do not share this sentiment as they prepare for this weekend's series in Duluth.

That's right. As her colleague noted...throw the records...and rankings out when the Gophers and Bullmutts play. Expect an intense, hotly contested series this weekend. UMD has to be extremely motivated to gain ground in the standings.

Will they be raising a banner of some sort...or hosting an emotional ceremony to honor a former goo...I mean player?
