Maybe they should just have some sort of symbol on the sweater and we can all refer to them as "the team formally known as the Fighting Sioux" and everyone will be happy. ;)

Re: Minnesota Golden Gopher Women's Hockey 2012-2013

The Gophers played their first bad period of the year today. They were very fortunate to escape the first period with a scoreless tie. Some of it was North Dakota; they were very aggressive all over the ice and it looked like Minnesota wasn't prepared for it. There were a lot of passes right to someone in a white jersey. Noora made a couple of fabulous saves and UND failed to connect on some other chances.

They got the ship righted between the first two periods. Either that, or giving up a goal 18 seconds into the second woke them up. Bozek tied it up less than a minute later on the power play and the Gophers pretty much took control after that, save for a 2-on-0 breakaway shortly thereafter. North Dakota collapsed in the last ten minutes which led to the lopsided score.

I thought their first period, and game with the complete absence of Amanda Kessel had it's obvious affect and adjustment period.

Re: Minnesota Golden Gopher Women's Hockey 2012-2013

I was just doing some cross checking of the NoDak game notes, the Midco Sports Network and the Comcast website, it appears that the Sunday game will be on live on FCS Central, ch. 263 where I live (north suburbs). Today's game will be tape delay on Midco, I could find no reference to it on the Comcast site.
Had the subscription through my provider (Comcast / Infinity) in the past. Just called to inquire about re-subscribing in order to watch today's rematch on the big screen rather than the desktop monitor like yesterday afternoon. That was $7.95 for a 24 hour pass. I dislike the auto renewal monthly options. Anyway, Comcast allows you to subscribe on a pro rated basis. $10.00 monthly so you can subscribe for a specific broadcast / event and basically get charged for just those days of the broadcast. I can watch the game and cancel tomorrow or the next day and the charges are like 33 cents a day or thereabouts. A good deal compared to paying $7.95 or a monthly subscription fee and watching an approximately 4 or 5 square inch box. Just an FYI.

Gave up the subscription back when due to lack of interest in events broadcast on other channels included in the package. Same time they quit broadcasting the women's FF semis.

GO GOPHERS!

Comcast broadcast in standard def only. Boo!

But even standard def a large step up from internet streaming video. Yay!

Re: Minnesota Golden Gopher Women's Hockey 2012-2013

A BIG CONGRATS to the Golden Gophers for SWEEPING the Whioux? in Grand Forks! Final score today was 4-2.

Also very nice to have Amanda Kessel back on the ice...as is so often the case she contributed two goals which was the difference in the game.

Courtesy of Jay mendell.
Watching the game right now, thanks to DVR. I'm not putting this one on Mendel, but his partner. That guy is a clown. Both penalties on Ramsey were very questionable, especially on the crappie flop by Lamoreaux at the end of the second. She went down like there was a sniper in the second deck.

I completely expected a dive call on that one. Not to be.

Ya, but the only way I've ever seen a dive called is as a coincidental with a trip or hook. I think all the judges game Jocelyn a 10 on that dive including the Russian judge.

I thought he was equally horrid. Some of those calls on jlam were weak penalties. Letting Minnesota change players after they iced it.

Re: Minnesota Golden Gopher Women's Hockey 2012-2013

The refs were bad, but just like yesterday, it was the linesmen who were truly embarrassing. It's not just that they missed calls. They also didn't know the rules in a number of cases. They also were not on the same page. At almost every whistle during the third period they were having a heated discussion complete with emphatic arm gestures. Neither should work another game but if they do, they need to work with a different partner and spend time getting things worked out before the first game.

The officiating was a joke. Neither team should be complaining about being jobbed because NO ONE has the slightest idea who the bad calls hurt more.

Re: Minnesota Golden Gopher Women's Hockey 2012-2013

Greg Shepherd, WCHA supervisor of officials for both the men and women, was interviewed on the Gopher mens radio broadcast from Mariucci this afternoon. I did not see the Gopher-UND women's game, but from all the complaints I've been reading about - from BOTH SIDES - it's too bad Mr. Shepherd wasn't in Grand Forks to witness this womens game instead. I've heard him speak a couple of times, and whenever and wherever he's there to watch and critique a game, he takes notes of how his officials are doing and discusses his observations with that game's refs afterwards.

Here is a link to the WCHA women's officials: http://www.wcha.com/women/wcha/officials.php

He was at R.E.A. on Saturday, and there was plenty of linesmen confusion to witness.

I guess that's good, but apparently - again assuming all the criticism is justified - any constructive feedback Shepherd may have given them didn't help much.
