Re: Minnesota Golden Gopher Women's Hockey 2012-2013

Replay of all 14 Gopher goals from last weekend (no audio, though). http://www.gophersports.com/allaccess/?media=363341t.

Two things.

I get the fact that these games were vs MSU although I've previously seen Butters be quite solid. And I get the fact that UM is a very talent laden team.

But in addition to that, what this video shows me is that when they shoot they shoot like they mean it...maximum effort put into the shot...complete execution. They aren't contemplating taking any prisoners...nor should they. At least two of those goals were the result of the shot being too hot for Butters to handle...she got a piece of each shot but the puck ended up gaining altitude, going over her and landing in the old onion bag. That wouldn't happen with tentative shots.

As well, although a bit more difficult to determine conclusively especially in a highlight video, it sure seemed to me that there was also some serious synergy happening...that elusive extra dimension...the seventh man.

Success breeds success.

Beautiful to watch.

I think it's great that the Sunday game is sold out—but I'm also pretty disappointed. Three of us are taking Friday and Monday off and driving to Madison for the weekend to watch the Gophers play. Badger fans, any ideas about people who might have tickets but not head over to the game on Sunday?

The merits of a well executed one timer and the quick release. A couple additional things accomplished with greater proficiency thus far.

Wouldn't it be swell to have another Gopher WCHA OPTW come next Wednesday?

LaBahn Arena, capacity 2,273.

It just opened this year, but UW really went cheap and cut the capacity in half from the original plans of a Ridder-sized facility.
Ridder's capacity is only 3,400, so it's not that much bigger. I'm looking forward to seeing what a sold-out LaBahn looks like.

Depends how you look at it. Only a little more than a thousand numerically, but about 50% more in percentage terms.

Cramped.

Re: Minnesota Golden Gopher Women's Hockey 2012-2013

Was this purpose built just for the Badger women?

And as a practice facility for the men's team. The Gopher men's team will use Ridder to help prepare for an away series that will be played on an NHL-sized rink, and I assume it's the same in Wisconsin? The big difference is that the Kohl Center is also used for mens and womens basketball, whereas both Ridder and Mariucci are dedicated hockey arenas.

Re: Minnesota Golden Gopher Women's Hockey 2012-2013

Yeah, while its officially built for the women's hockey program, the only reason it is actually there to give the Badger Men their own practice space. If the men hadn't been struggling for ice time, there is no way it would have been built.

From the sound of it, Mens hockey basically doesn't practice at Kohl at all anymore. Earlier this year, Mike Eaves was complaining about the difference in ice size, and having to play games on the big ice of Kohl after not having practiced on it since preseason.

95% correct. The hockey offices were still at the Dane County Collesium, so that was a problem as well. But I think if they could practice at the Kohl regularly, they could have done a small addition with men's & women's hockey offices and hockey specific lockers.

Re: Minnesota Golden Gopher Women's Hockey 2012-2013

The Saturday, February 2 game with Duluth is listed in the schedule for the Big Ten network!!!!
That's too bad. National champs playing Wisco, streak on the line, two Big Ten teams, and no tv?

How about FSN? Are they showing a couple of Gopher games this year?
