Minnesota Golden Gopher Season 2019-2020: Motzko 2.0

Re: Minnesota Golden Gopher Season 2019-2020: Motzko 2.0

Back from an extended Caribbean vacation and still trying to adjust to the 50 degree temperature drop.

Very much looking forward to seeing the Gophers in person for the first time this weekend.

Extended Caribbean Vacation?? I would have carried your bags.;)

I think we'll see a lot more line chemistry develop early with this squad compared to last season. The blueline looks much better this season as well. Niagara is no push over. They're more of a veteran team with most of their top scorers returning.

Game Day!

Important series with Niagara for PWR. Sweep.

Re: Minnesota Golden Gopher Season 2019-2020: Motzko 2.0

A slew of turnovers from this young Gopher team kept Niagara in the game especially in the second, Gotta fix that for tomorrow night. I liked the mental toughness though in coming from behind and winning it in OT on an exciting breakaway goal by Sammy.Walker. With maybe the exception on the second goal off his pad, LaFontaine was very good in net.

Good, short summary SteveO. I would add though that overall Niagara had more Grade A scoring chances than the home team, but a combination of excellent goaltending by LaFontaine and some healthy doses of good luck prevented more of those Grade A chances from ending up in the net. Too often the Gophers were careless with the puck in their D zone (reminding me of last season) and made sloppy passes through the neutral zone. Until giving up that two on one I thought Niagara played a solid, conservative game and were very good using their sticks to break up what appeared to be some very promising Gopher scoring chances. I thought for the talent they have (no NHL draftees!) they executed a very solid defensive game plan against a more talented - but younger - Gopher squad.

On the way home I listened to Motzko's post-game comments, and let's just say he was NOT a happy camper.

And that's why you're posting here?:D:D

Young team going to make a lot of mistakes and they’re going to lose a lot.

The talent is there. Is the heart?

Bob is building quite a team. If they stick together for a few more years, they could be formidable.

1. Are we down to like 4 posters here?
2. I assume it is no longer possible to put a smiley at he beginning of a thread?
3. haven't looked lately, are there still UND tickets?
4. Anyone going to Duluth?

I don't post much, but I read the thread frequently. I enjoy the information. Please keep posting. I read the team thread too.

We may see some line changes again tonight as he tries to find that right combo of skill and grit. I'm waiting for Brannon McManus to find his scoring groove. He was good last season. I really like Ben Meyers, he could evolve into a dynamic scoring threat. HIGHLIGHTS

Some random thoughts from last night:
1. The Gophers may not play well at all times but they always are playing with passion
2. There were no lines for the bathrooms
3. The goalie was stellar
4. Sammy Walker is fantastic
5. I got out of the parking ramp quickly
6. My son bought me a malt cup

Good game overall.
