Minnesota Girls High School Hockey IV

Re: Minnesota Girls High School Hockey IV

Anywhere I can scope holiday tournament brackets?

With the break in the college schedule it's a good time to catch some of the super gifted, way better than any non Minnesota girl's high school hockey player in the entire country...playing in any of the TC area holiday tournaments. Particularly future Gophers hoarded and subsequently imprisoned, thus doomed with no hope of actually playing college hockey.

We saw #2AA 'tonka play #4AA Wayzata on Saturday. It was no contest 5-0. The skippers are hoarding an SCSU recruit, a Badger recruit & a Gopher recruit (Brad was there with some handcuffs and a shotgun but was not able to kidnap 2 of 3). Wayzata had some decent players but no answer to that first line.

Later #1A Blake did the same to Breck #2A 4-0 in a penalty filled (for girls HS, 12 minors) 4-0. I did notice a windowless van in the parking lot with "FREE SKATE SHAPENINg" spray painted on the side and a GWH bumper sticker on the back.

EDIT: You can get a day-by-day schedule at http://www.mngirlshockeyhub.com/ which is pretty handy

Schwan Cup on the boys side getting extensive ink in the Pioneer Press...with not a word for any of the holiday tournaments on the girls side. For my Strib reading friends...anything better in that sports section?

Nothing other than box scores in the paper edition today, which is a little surprising. There is a story on Chaska/Chanhassen's big upset win over Minnetonka on the Hub today here:

Maybe the Pioneer Press will do a better job covering the Kaposia Tournament, which is more St. Paul-centric. That one starts today.

Also, it is my understanding that the 13 Minnesota girls who were selected to the USA U18 team will be leaving today to get ready for the IIHF World Championship. Those players will be missing all of their high school games played between now and the 16th.

Fast-forward 36 years to the Kaposia Classic Invitational semifinals on Jan. 2 at Doug Woog Arena in South St. Paul, where McClanahan's daughter, Sara, took a trick out of her father’s repertoire to score the game-winning goal in a shootout against Hill-Murray.

“I faked a shot and quickly went five-hole on the goalie,” she said.

Had wondered how they settled this when I saw a 2-2 tie after the 2nd OT in the box score.

A shootout in a holiday tournament, any tournament? Just wrong.

Re: Minnesota Girls High School Hockey IV

I tend to ignore the huge point totals racked up by girls who play for teams with a very weak SOS, those in the bottom half for sure.

One to keep your eye on next year is Carly Bullock, who so far this year has 37 goals, including 9 hat tricks against very good competition (Blake, #11 SOS). Great pickup by Princeton!

Another top goal scorer to keep your eye on is Gabbie Hughes of Centennial. Just a sophomore, she's scored 39 goals and her team's SOS is a solid #17. I was a little surprised that she wasn't on the USA's U18 roster. Miss Hughes is still uncommitted as far as I know.

Re: Minnesota Girls High School Hockey IV

poor Miss Norby, she'll be lucky to be one of the five finalists now that she has received the kiss of death from brooky
Gets funnier every time pokey...the one joke wonder. There's that comprehension problem again. Better recount the UW recruits among the ten.

I'm typing as slow as I can pokey.

Since pukey has stated he pitys anyone that cares about any game played by girls why are you even responding to him?

Re: Minnesota Girls High School Hockey IV

the sectionals, especially the sectional finals, are often better than the state tournament because it's everyone's dream to make it to state, so they give it all they got and then some, plus you have neighboring schools with multigenerational rivalries

Burnsville & Hastings played only 4 overtimes
Lakeville North & Rochester JM two, those fans should ask for their money back for such a short game

Re: Minnesota Girls High School Hockey IV

Stillwater Area v. Roseville Area at Roseville Arena tomorrow at 8pm in a match up of 4 and 5 seeds.

4 and 5.

Quite a change.

I agree, and I think there are additional reasons for that. The atmosphere in the smaller building for sectionals is better, so the intensity seems to translate unto the ice. Also, I'd guess the teams are more comfortable in those more-familiar rinks than on the ice at the X. Sometimes at State, it seems the game is over before a team that doesn't get there as often can settle in.
