Minnesota Girls High School Hockey IV

Re: Minnesota Girls High School Hockey IV

Just curious if anyone could give me a scouting report on St. Paul United players and Cornell recruits Joie Phelps and Samantha Burke?

Didn't see much of St Paul United to be able have worthwhile comments but I would agree with D2D that Burke (#18) is more of a power forward than Phelps. FWIW I will include a link to the 2017 Girls Hockey State Tournament central website where you can check out highlight videos of St. Paul United's games. Just click on the game scores that they were involved in and it will take you to a write-up with video.

Re: Minnesota Girls High School Hockey IV

That's why they're the best teams and why the playing field is not level. You see, 98% of the small town, outstate teams are all home grown. What they have is what they've got. You look at that list from Blake and it's just sickening. They have some of the best players transferring in from an area with two million people. I can't believe they don't have players from California to Sweden.

Funny, during state tournament player introduction they don't actually say where the players are from.

All this talk of recruiting and "hometown" teams is similar to all the whining about #8 returning to the Gophers and them winning the NCAA last year, it's sour grapes

first off all the private schools take from across the metro area and beyond, not just Blake
second, many of the out-state schools get transfers from other districts, it isn't just the metro schools
people act like the private schools are a bunch of cheaters and the public school pure as freshly fallen snow

really, it is primarily the parents who are just trying to do what they believe is best for their kid
a few go overboard, but most follow the rules, how can you blame them for trying to do what is best for their kid?

BTW, if Blake's championship is tainted, what then of StP United? they are a combination of two private schools, IOW, aren't they twice as bad?

The Upper Midwest High School Elte league is a pre season tune up league that runs for 6-8 weeks prior to the start of the Minnesota High school League. The girls that make the Red, Black and White teams are generally U19 players, but not always typically going into their JR or senior year. Players need to qualify to play in the league. Invitation to national camp is the first qualifier. Any Senior that played in the league previously is also invited back. If those numbers don't fill the rosters then a tryout is held to fill up the rest. The league also involves Shattuck on a regular bases and every weekend invite teams ie. Team Wisconsin, Chicago Mission, Honey Bake etc. Occasionally teams from Canada join in the mix.
It is a highly scouted league as it involves the top players going head to head. The R/B/W teams are chosen to be some what even. There is also a U16 league chosen in a similar manner.
The teams have no geographic connection and it is not uncommon for the best players from the same HS to play against each other. http://www.hselitehockey.com/stats#/164/schedule?season_id=689
The Minnesota HS league has girls playing for the High school they attend. The season runs from Mid October to Mid February. You play with your classmates and you represent your city, town etc, HS. http://www.mngirlshockeyhub.com

Ahh, thank you for that.

Minnesota Hockey (USA Hockey) runs the fall league??

Re: Minnesota Girls High School Hockey IV

The high school season will get underway this weekend with many scrimmages scheduled across the state. SB NATION has put the following pre-season watch list together of candidates who they believe are in the running for Minnesota's Ms. Hockey award. Not surprisingly the number of Gopher and Bulldog committed recruits dominate the list:

Re: Minnesota Girls High School Hockey IV

Two big match-ups so far, with No. 1 ranked Edina in Class AA beating No. 2 in Class A St. Paul United, 6-3, and
Blake (No. 2 in AA) prevailing over No. 3 in AA Hill-Murray last night by a 4-1 margin.

All these schools are stacked with D1 recruits, topped by Blake and Edina with 8 and 7 respectively.

One organization's take on the Top 25 Minnesota high school recruits, and a separate list of 25 "Honorable Mentions". Obviously there will some dispute as to which players belong to which list, and some girls' fortunes will change as they play out their remaining eligibility. Also, it seems like a larger than average number will be heading East when their high school careers are over.

And sadly, Blake's Olivia Bizal, a goaltender and Minnesota-Duluth commit, had to retire from hockey due to concussion concerns. :( Best of luck to her...

Dam I hate that. Something needs to be done to find an answer for the problem. Not simply for the game but for the girls, brains are too important to risk
One of the TV stations had a story last week about the concussion problem, but it was all about those suffered while playing soccer.

Re: Minnesota Girls High School Hockey IV

Re: Minnesota Girls High School Hockey IV

Should be a pretty good game at Ridder tonight at 8:00 local. Current #1AA vs #2AA in the final of the Schwan Cup Gold Division.

Blake vs Centennial.

Centennial has played a harder schedule with a win vs Edina a week ago and has the most feared 2 F in MNHS Hockey with A Linser and Gabby Hughes. Blake without M Wethington (at USA U18 camp).

Hope it is a good game...

#1 vs #2 and one of the best players is out playing in a hockey camp somewhere. I'm shocked, simply shocked :)

(Games and teams and seasons don't matter, I know.)

It was a good game from the standpoint that Centennial's most "feared" player was the goaltender.

The MSHSL used to have strict limits on the number of games kids were allowed to play during the season, is that still the case? Anybody know?
