Re: Minnesota Girls High School Hockey III

First of all you can drop the PC lingo. This is Minnesota and she's a defenseman. She won't be a 'defensewoman' until she reaches the East Coast.

Actually, the unfortunate term they like to use is "defender." It ain;t frikken soccer sports information people. :(

Section 4AA

Stillwater defeated NSP 6-2 to continue their hunt for thier 3rd State Championship in 4 years. They should face Roseville in a huge game next Tuesday (they have split this season STW 5-2 and Roseville 4-2 both winning at home)

With Harvard goaltender Christina Kessler's torn ACL, Duluth Northern Star grad Laura Bellamy has stepped up and gone 7-2 since becoming Harvard's #1 goaltender, with both losses (including Friday night) being to RPI. She had a loss in her first start, against Quinnipiac 1-0 also. She's stopping 94% and has a GAA of 1.26. Not bad for a goaltender who didn't even get to play in the game that ended her high school career.

Re: Minnesota Girls High School Hockey III

8AA Semi's Tuesday:

#1 (8AA) Roseau hosts #4 North Wright Cty.
#2 (12AA) Bemidji hosts #3 Moorhead

No upsets (obviously) in the quarters, but Bemidji snuck by Brainerd/Little Falls 1-0.

I'll be back off IR Tuesday to announce the game, so will have a recap for you Tue. night...

After getting back to thinking about some of this stuff, I started thinking about these semi's. These should be a couple of great games. Bemidji and NWC played a one goal game back at the Andover tourney, and of course, Bemidji and Roseau were seperated by a couple of close games...

Plus you mentioned the Bemidji/Moorhead 4-3/2-2 connection.

I guess I'm saying I wouldn't be surprised by any combination of outcome Tue. night...

I did the reverse, arriving late after watching USA 13, Russia 0.

We saw the third period of Hill 4, WBL 2 and stayed to the end of

Roseville 4
Stillwater 0

Ahna Logan scored on the PP in the first. Thereafter it was all Bethany Brausen with the pure hat trick to complete the scoring. Brausen had a wrap around, a rink length rush topped off with a top corner stick side rocket and then a 140 foot empty netter.

Well...at least I have something to be encouraged about...or pleased by when I otherwise would not.

Should be an excellent section final...I just don't see anyone stopping Roseville on their quest.

Sorry Joe.

Re: Minnesota Girls High School Hockey III

8AA
Bemidji 7, Moorhead 1 F
Roseau 3, North Wright County 2 F/OT

Bemidji dominated this game in every way shape and form (Bemidji Pioneer recap). They outshot the Spuds 44-14, and took full command scoring with 7 seconds left in the first to lead 2-1, and again at :21 of the second to send Moorhead reeling. A goalie change in the second did no good, as Bemidji scored :08 seconds after a Spud time-out to make it 6-1. All-Bemidji all the time.

So, we do get the Bemidji/Roseau rematch. Remember that the Rams are 2-0 vs. the 'Jacks this year (2-0;2-1) but Bemidji outshot Roseau quite heavily in both games. Should be a very good game.

Due to ice availability (there's wrestling this weekend), the 8AA final was moved up to tomorrow (Thursday) at 7 p.m. at the Ralph Engelstad Arena, Thief River Falls.

Re: Minnesota Girls High School Hockey III

All-Bemidji all the time.

"But the Spuds dressed five freshmen and an eighth grader and only four seniors included the heralded Ashley Steenerson who ended her career scoreless, two goals short of setting a career goal scoring mark at the school.

She did set a new career scoring standard with 247 points last week."

Couldn't you have let Stenerson score a couple to at least tie the record? ;)

In the 2 hours it took to play the game, the Roseville mood went from the fear of a curse to the joy of a quest.

Set up at the REA-TRF press box. I'll update each intermission for the 8AA final, Bemidji vs. Roseau.

You know, I don't think I agree with this at all.

Certainly Roseville feared Stillwater and with good reason. But I certainly don't think they felt an exclusively Stillwater curse.

I think the fear of the curse activates NOW. Roseville fears losing that final game before getting on TV. They have been one of the top teams in state for the past several years but have never made an impression in the big show. Now is the time when curse thinking probably starts to manifest.

Re: Minnesota Girls High School Hockey III

2-1 Roseau after 1. Rams outshot Bji 6-5. Amy Olson and Ciscely Nelson w/ the Roseau goals; Allie Lapp w/ the 'Jacks goal. Pretty even game, as you would imagine. Back to work...

(The seniors were on TV as freshmen, and they were on TV the year before that.) I can't speak for everyone, but no, the 'fear' is of Tony Scheid-coached Stillwater teams. Now it's just the Classic Suburban champ with one (outstanding) line and shaky D (besides M Pendleton). I'm not saying Roseville wins, but the doubt and fear are gone. brookyone is right, now it's a quest. As far as I remember, Roseville has never lost to Hill-Murray, who has never been to state.

On a side note: The matchup of Brandt, Brandt and Doyle vs. Brausen, Capistrant and Barnett has to be one of the best ever. Great skill, smart and well-coached.
